I have factory A/C in my '79 Bronco. The York compressor appear to be leaking so the previous owner disconnected it. Before I convert everything to 134A and a Sanden compressor, I want to make sure everything's working. I know on a newer system I can jump the pressure switch to see if the compressor just getting power. I've looked through wiring diagrams but can't seem to locate the pressure switch on this one. Does anyone have any idea where the pressure switch is? I see there's some kind of temperature switch inside the box that contains the evaporator. Is that it? I'm used to seeing it on a line or on the dryer.
Your factory system uses a TVX or thermal expansion valve to control the compressor
There are a few names they throw around, but it is basically a capillary tube device that senses evaporator temperature
It both controls the freon coming into the evaporator and the compressor on / off time
Later fixed orifice systems are much better IMO
You might want to get an accumulator / receiver dryer and mount a clutch cycling switch there
Sometimes called a de-icing switch for those old Yorks
I would have just stuck with the York and converted it to R134a
