Hi Everybody,
I have a 1994 F150 with a 302 and a 5 speed manual transmission. I recently noticed that the truck was feeling a little sluggish and not accelerating well at all. Running the KOER test, I got a code 213 (SPOUT Circuit Open). Using a breakout box and the Ford Diagnosis Servise Manual, I am getting stuck on the PA pinpoint test (attached photo). I am getting a OL on my multimeter for ALL of the pin tests shown.
Any ideas on where to look for a short that would affect all of these?
OL means that the resistance is higher than the scale you have it set for. The Ohms settings are 200, 2K, 20K, 200K and 2M so what scale are you using?
Hi, thank you for the reply. Yep, I got a 111 on the KOEO. My multimeter has 20, 200, 2k, and 200k scales. I've tried on all of the scales and got the OL on each one (with a very brief flash of a number on the 200k scale before it went to OL).
I have also tested the continuity of the SPOUT plug, driven with my spare PCM (to confirm that it gets the same code), confirmed that the timing changes when the SPOUT plug is installed, and worked through the Pinpoint Tests up to this last step in test PA. I'm just at a loss for were to look next as the Pinpoint test says to fix the short on the circuit that doesn't have 10,000ohms, and I can't tell from the wiring diagram if there is a common point for all of these that may have failed.

In that case the resistance is more than 2 million which is bigger than 10,000 so the answer is “yes.” You have an open circuit, not a short. So what is the next step in the testing?

The testing sends you off to the Ignition Diagnostics section. It does seem to be open ended a bit to me. Assume you actually have the SPOUT plugged in.
Yep, the SPOUT was plugged in. I spent the evening reading over the next section in the pinpoint test. I'll start running the tests tomorrow after work (I also just found one of the diagnostic cables listed on ebay, so I'll have that soon as well). Thank you both for your help, I really appreciate it
Well, I got the 007-00097 cable in today. But it didn't come with the overlay for the breakout box, any chance any of you have an overlay that you could photo or scan over to me?
Well, I was able to work through the rest of the checks and it indicated a bad pcm. So I swapped in my spare (which had showed the 213 code before, but maybe I messed up when I ran the codes that time) and it seems to be running better. I'll run codes tomorrow when I get home from work, fingers crossed that was the issue
