As you may know, Rockauto no longer ships many parts to Europe because they might contain Russian steel (no joke).
I can’t get filters, serpentine-belts, or anything else directly.
Lately, I’ve had the impression that the build quality of Motorcraft filters has declined
I’ve now transferred the FL2016 part number to a Donaldson filter and ordered this one here in Germany. In terms of dimensions, it’s identical to the Motorcraft filter, but it doesn’t have the hole in the middle like the FL2016; instead, there’s a movable part inserted there. It looks high-quality.
I won’t get the Donaldson fuel filter set until next month.
What do you think of the Donaldson filter?
I know it says “Made in China” on it. But we all know how many products are now manufactured exclusively in China. And if they really want to, they can make good products too.
No disrespect intended, but I am really surprised you have not converted over to the air to oil cooler from BPD which gets rid of the OEM filter, OEM oil cooler and relocates the oil filter to the left bumper area.
Best thing I ever did to my truck and the filter is now a huge truck filter, and I use Baldwin exclusively.
The Motorcraft filters have been sub par for a while now. Think it was a year or two ago that I posted about the filters being covered in fuzz like shown in one of your pictures.
First thing I thought when I seen the fuzz was a plugged IPR. Funny enough, the FRAM filter I had just purchased was clean as a whistle fuzz wise and looked to be good quality and if it wasn't for that insert part piece I'd be running FRAM filters right now. I have 2 Motorcraft filters left and after that I'll be switching to something else.
They have always had a little fuss. At around 9:07 minutes, you can see fuzz *****. This is a video I made a long time ago; my throwing the filter in the trash at the end was a joke.
I still have a small stock of filters; right now I have to buy them through third parties. I can't afford to be unable to work because I'm short on filters.
Jack: Why do you think the Donaldson filter has a “plug” in the middle?
I tested both versions by mounting them with my modified filter cap; I couldn’t tell the difference (new filter standpipe).
It has happened to me several times that the last few turns are harder to screw in; something in the filter standpipe is blocking it, and that was also the case with this Motorcraft filter. The Donaldson didn’t have this issue; it also has a different internal shape
>>Jack: Why do you think the Donaldson filter has a “plug” in the middle?
It’s probably due to the difference in Donaldson’s filter production equipment. For the Donaldson setup, they may have needed a spindle to locate the cap or rotate on, which explains the hole and the need to plug it afterward.

The filter standpipe has a rounded pin in the center that seals the hole in the filter. That's why the extra part on the Donaldson seems unnecessary to me.
