Since I saw the SPE filter replacement setup, I have been intrigued by it. I ran across a utub who installed one, so the process isn't too bad. The fact that it doesn't require any one specific filter, but can choose which one you think would be better is even better. The one thing though holding me back ( besides money) is that the F-450 has it mounted between the tank and the frame and not in front of the tank like the video. Looks like it would be a more difficult installation. Since I want to remove the GGV brick and put in a CC and the S&S return filter, I could also eliminate the upper filter and make for a cleaner look in that corner. Out of all of it, THAT is the most intriguing part for me.
LOL. Just do it!!!! I have a 450 too. I don't think it will be that hard to do. I've been laying underneath my truck for two days thinking this process out.
It's neat, but I can buy OEM filters for the life of the truck for what they're charging for the kit. All for spin on filters, but I don't really see what I'm gaining for that kind of investment.
Better filtration for one, choice of filtration for another, ease of service as well. Elimination of possibly busting the fittings on the top of engine filter. No more spilling of diesel on the engine and living with the stench until it burns off. Longer change intervals. There are many pro's to this system, few Con's, price being one of them. My only concern is how low they hang under the tank and might get snagged.
Looking at the Donaldsons, they are shorter, until you put the bowl on then it is just as long as the Cat. Is that bowl optional? If so, then a perfect setup as it would be fully protect by the tank surrounding them.

Yes, the bowl is optional. If it hangs too long for my liking then I will just remove the bowl. It was easier to have it than not have it.

Yep, it is just an inspection bowl. The P551000 is a great filter from Donaldson, 96% efficient at emulsified water.
I agree SPE does have a lot of bling/bro mods and that chunk of hardware is very spendy... however that is some nice looking machine work. Thanks for posting the pics.

Couple more Cons:
1. Very high probability fuel system warranty is voided. (Some will say Ford doesn't back their warranty regardless so it doesn't matter)
2. The unknowns. (CP4.2 pump is sensitive to air in the fuel system. I've read of CP4.2 failures soon after the dealer replaced the factory fuel filters. Makes you wonder if they performed the proper priming process to remove the air).
Besides these concerns it looks like a cool setup.

Considering the warranty on my truck clearly states the fuel system is NOT covered, #1 is a non issue. #2 is a concern, but, like you said, priming properly is everything. The top engine fuel block has two ports so if bleeding is a concern, it can be used to put a fitting on the bleed it, like a Schroeder valve.
I have been interested in this kit since SPE announced its release. Seems like a great alternate to other competitors (HSM upper/lower) kits, with cleaning up the engine bay. One main hesitation is SPE's ability to sustain supply-chain/shipping, considering this is a new item and likely high demand. Curious how SPE's kit + S&S's solution to replace the CP4.2 later this year, would yield a solid fuel system for '17+ 6.7L platforms. Will continue to monitor SPE's kit for members and other site's feedback of performance (for OEM & sorta OEM) trucks.
Not jumping on it at the moment due to finding out that 17 was the cutoff for the 2K tax credit and now owing $1200 in taxes. Thought it was 18, or would have removed my daughter from the W4 last year, so have to wait before I can get the kit. Maybe by then there will be more reviews and vids on it.

What is the water sensor drain valve size. Need replacement.
