Yes, a 3G alternator is an excellent upgrade to our IDI trucks. Here's a thread with plenty of good info.

BTW, that alternator is way overpriced. Even buying a new one from the parts store is cheaper.

 

 

Get a used one, I bought one off ebay, it was marketed as oem, but was a garbage knock off, returned it. .. New 'motorcraft' brand is also made in China now. Junk yard oem is very high quality, take it apart and refurbish it yourself, they're very easy to work on, yes 3g large case fits same as original, must the 'large case 130a' to fit, they also made a small case 3g, that one does not fit.

 

I guess I got a large case 3G alternator for my Bullnose truck off of that 94 Taurus. The alternator fit without modifying the case or bracket.
