Alternator recommendation
Alternator recommendation
Hey all, I replaced my alternator over 10 years ago with a Ford Remanufactured alternator. I don't use my truck that often, mostly for towing. Anyway, it seems that it has given up the ghost as my batteries have suddenly died and they are only between 3 and 4 years old. I will be taking the bats to Auto Zone to have them load tested, but I suspect the alternator is the issue. My question is, does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement alternator? Is a Ford remanufactured alternator the way to go or is there a more reliable alternator out there to buy. I don't think Ford offers "new" alternators... or do they? In short, please steer me the right way on my next likely purchase.
Check FICMrepair.com (link to alternator page below), they have a pretty good reputation for 6.0 alternators.

Hey there Tim, long time no post!
Here's a recent thread with some good info in it, bottom line was go with a 140A NEW unit unless you have large electrical draws - the thread tells you which ones and where to buy: Take care!

I have a DC Power "stock replacement" alternator which at the time was 170 amp output (i believe). It was the highest output I could get without upgrading my charging system wiring. It's served me very well since 2014. I think 180 amp is the lowest output DC power alternator you can get now.

Three to four years for some battery situations is not abnormal, with infrequent use and no maintenance charging. Declaring an alternator the issue when no mention of a battery light (charging light) may be premature before going into the wallet lions den.
The battery light tells you the alternator is not charging.
