I snugged the bolts on the valve covers..probably going have to replace the gaskets. I learned from a previous thread that the upper intake manifold will have to come out to get to both of them. That's going to be the next project.
Unless the gaskets were broken or over torqued you should be fine snugging them up. Choke up on your ratchet and snug them up. Over tightening can cause leaks. And since it's been leaking you have to recheck every 50 miles or so. Once they check at 50 miles check at 100. Then 250. This chases the oil out of the bolt threads and eventually you can check them every oil change, or if you notice leaks.

upper intake? Isn’t this a 1984, 302?

I would wipe up the leaked oil. The remaining film will prevent rust.

I believe I got mixed up and worded that wrong (about the upper intake). I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box.
Definitely wiping it down

FWIW, I was under my 86 302 yesterday, I noticed there are no heat shields under the exhaust manifolds... But mine is EFI so no heat duct needed for the air cleaner.

Well I thought it was a heat shield but seeing it off the motor it is not LOL
I am also guessing them holes were where the bolts were to hold it to the manifold.

Have we established it is the exhaust heat stove for the intake? Just making sure we are all on the same page. If those holes are where it mounts, and you can actually get the bolts out of the manifold, I think I would weld fender washers to the stove and bolt it back in place after a little high temp silver paint.

Y'all are right. It is the heat stove. That's a relief
Snugged the valve cover bolts down - that seems to have done the trick. Wiped the oil off too..that truck is well lubricated
I appreciate the help!
