Anyone know where my problem is? My instument panel lights are haywire. The right turn signal stays on all the time. Replaced all the lights and cleaned the contacts>No help. Still stays on. The instrument lights work sometimes, and sometimes not? The upper marker lights on the cab never worked untill I removed everything and wired them direct to the headlight switch. Now they work. Cleaned the contacts on the fuse box. I think its in the harness somnewhere. Anyone else experienced this. Its on my 79 F-250... Thanks
It sounds like you have a bad turn signal switch. Troubleshooting that switch has been covered here many times. There is also a tech paper here on the subject: https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles...elecrepair.php
Found the problem Torque1st. For the T-signal light on the instrument panel. It is the connector that the bulb goes in. Checked the wires, fixed some bad conections. I located the problem about 2hrs later..LOL The problem is the connector. It loks good with a visual inspection, but the inside of the connector seems to be bad. I noticed the ground was rusted off on the inside. The hot wires will not hold a good connection. Going to find all new light bulb inserts and be done wih it. Thanks Torque1st.
??? The light bulb socket will not have anything to do with why your turn signal was on all the time, unless all of the grounds in your instrument panel are bad.
The instrument panel bulb holders are available at parts stores.
No,
The socket that holds the bulb up front in the grill was bad. When I connected the ground to the exterior of the bulb, the T-signal indicator in the instrument panel went out. Trust me, it fixed my problem. I drove the truck to work this morning and I'm not stairing at a signal light on the instrument panel anymore. It worked, don't know why, but it did. The instrument panel kights not working was the fuse again.
I had the same problem with a turn signal light staying on. If you have a bad ground in a front or rear two filament bulb, when you turn on the lights it will backfeed through the other filament lighting up the turn signal indicator.
I guess that is what happened. Took a while to find that the ground was rusted in the inside of the socket. The sockets are cheap to replace. I hate waiting for the delivery truck!
The instrument panel kights not working was the fuse again.
Hi,
I am having a very similar problem. With my '76 F-150 4x4 my instrument lights do not work. I went so far as to replace the circuit panel and all bulbs with new sockets and still nothing. The turn signals work and the high beam...but that is it. I have been reduced to a flash light for night time driving...eek!
I guess it could be the fuse? Which fuse is it? Plus any other suggestions?
Could be in the headlight switch. The instrument lights are actuated with a turn of the pull ****. If you turn the pull **** to the right and left and the dash lights do not come on, get brighteror dim, you might try changing the headlight switch and see. They're easy enough to change out and a wrecking yard would be a good spot to get one cheap to test with

Replace all off them. The one for the instrument lights is the real short fuse closer to the pedals. Its too cold to go out and look...LOL... When my bright light indicator quits working,I go slam the passenger side door, it comes back on...LOL...what a nightmare!!!! I'm ordering all new light sockets through a certain ford supplier. That should eliminate some troubleshooting!! Good luck brother. All my instrument light problems have been fixed with the fuse box. I cleaned the contacts at first, now I'm blowing the fuse?? Beets me
And if that doesnt work. Look at the diagram and run new wires into the light switch. Had to do that for my upper cab marker lights. They never fail now. Just keep track of what you do in a log. If you ever sell the truck, dont give him a nightmare..LOL
It's the top row, all the way right. It's a 3 amp fuse Biz.
Thanks. I'll do some checking on the fuse idea. I also appreciate the suggestion from olfordsnstone , but do not think it is the light switch dim, cause if I turn to right/left the heater lights dim and so do the wiper/headlight dim.
It really has me puzzled...since I have replaced all bulbs, circuit, and sockets. Lets see how the fuse's look...
