Engine build dates

I have a 2004 F-250 SD Crew Cab. The date on the valve cover driver side is Aug 15, 2003. Is this an 03 motor or an 04? VIN is 1FTNW20P14EA55370. Now, having asked this question, what improvements were made in the 04 build?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

you have a late build 03 engine [has the good C95 injectors] 04 motors did not go into production trucks prior to Sept 29th 03 [first released 04 motor date from IH]

they moved some components in th 04 changed the turbo a bit in other words they tweaked it

Hello,

I have a March 03 6.0 that doesn't get good fuel mileage, my VIN # is 1FTNW21P23EC50908. I was told by my local dealer it was because I was using 15-40 Delo oil. I was also told Ford won't do anything about poor fuel mileage. I get anywhere from 14-17 mpg, mostly around 15.2. I have almost 16,000 on it is there anything I can do to improve this?

I also am thinking of replacing my wife's 7.3 and am a little apprehensive of purchasing a new 6.0. I understand that the injection system is being revamped. Is this true?

Thank you,

A: That's pretty normal, try a 10w30 and see how much difference you get, also try kepping hwy spd to 70 or lower and don't let it idle for extended periods...

B: Yes...to an extent....

Find another dealer

If I'm not mistaken ford uses delo 400 and bottles it under motorcraft for diesel engine oil.

oil is bid out every year, usually a penn crude company (pennzoil or quaker state) just as long as it meets Ford specs....they will not use an expensive grade oil for sure....

Oh Mah Gawd! If I were getting 14-17 mpg, I would be down on my knees thanking the Big-G. I get 9.8 mpg. Trust me ... it could be worse ... especially if you were in my shoes.
Cheers,
Enjoy
