I need help finding the build date of my engine, have been told that it should be on the drivers side valve cover but all there is there is some bar codes and the vin#. I have had the service techs at the dealership look to no avail.
Had to have the fuel enjector module replaced at 324 miles and they now tell me the number was on that part, funny place to put one. I thought I had saw reference to how to locate it (with the vin# and some more info) on this site but can not find it now. Thanks for any help. wesran
04 F250 c/c body build date 2/15/04
Then the service techs you use MAY be the problem....
scary if they know less about this engine than I do !!!!!!!!!!!!
RUN to another dealer -
this is an indication of a parts swapper not a good certified diesel mechanic
It IS on the valve cover just below the bar code - at least it is on the trucks I've had... it is a yellow or white sticker baout 3 inches by 5 inches...
it will be formatted something like 04 Feb 22 for an engine bud date of 2-22-04 ....
Thanks jdadamsjr for the reply but as Istated earlier there is no build date on the valve cover (either side) and I tend to agrree about the service tech although he is not the mechanic. It still seems there should be a way to find the build date. Still looking and did get the message that I had poted in the wrong forum to start with. wesran
wesran, kw5413 is 100% on. These guys could take your vin and run it on OASIS and tell you everything you want to know. They were correct that the label was on the FICM. But they should have gone to the OASIS. Get the heck away from them and find another service department.
wesran... my post was more of a response post to see if you revisited...
many of the new user post of horrific issues with the 6-oh have turned out to be bogus post from those that some of us have gotten somewhat tired of.... so we are a bit timid with new comers sometimes....
but welcome ! there is a wealth of info here - but like any free internet site - (or any coversation for that matter) consider the source of the information... even the "bad guys that drive chebies" are on here
it is on the barcoded label, very difficult to see, especially on a 4x4 (thats 6" higher than stock)
now, his username is "wesran" so i hope that means he "ran" from that dealer to a dealer that will diagnose, rather than throw non defective parts in the trash and potentially CREATE a problem with a defective replacement part!!!!!!
Well I haven't given up just having trouble getting my numbers, am not able to read the engine serial number as it seems that may be the only way to get the engine build date and then may need some help converting that. Do any of you know how to use the serial number to get the engine build date? I have a guy on another site trying also and if he comes up with some ting will pass it on. I am not having any problems with my truck but would like to be prepared.
Thanks again for all the help so far.
04 6.0 c\c 3.73 w\2300 miles avg 17.5 mpg
Thanks but have already been there and still have not got it. I will try to get the engine serial# today. I can't read it as my bifocals nor trifocals will let me focus on it so may have to get one of my grandsons to get it for me then may be able to convert thaat to a build date.
Granted it is difficult to read. Use a bright flashlight. I have to stand on a step stool and really crane my neck around to see it but there is no translation. It is day-month-year.

Well want to thank every one for the input and help. Tim I think I had posted this on the general forum first and it was moved here but there is nothing missing from it so no need to look for it. As for Oasis I am waiting till I get my info before I go back to the dealer. Have been to flatratetech and thought they had run through the Oasis and weren't able to come up with the engine build date, the replacement of the FICM@328 miles was listed , they suggested that I get the engine serial number and then we would cross reference it if we could get some help to do it and so far I have not been able to get the number along with the glasses problem I have the disadvantage of age and can't crawl around under there like a young guy. So will keep trying and I do appreciate all the help and enjoy and need all the information I have found on the site.
