26 F450, Catastrophic Engine Failure at 400 miles
ya spot on 9.5k. trailers 12k with all the gear in it.
Yes it is! VW is actually spinning off their truck operations (Scania, MAN, International, and VW Truck in South America), now known as Traton. The Silverado 4500, 5500, and 6500 are a joint venture between GM and International, the cab, Duramax engine, and electrical come from GM, chassis and suspension from International, who assembles the truck in Spingfield Ohio. We have them at work, and they are pretty good. Built more like a Ford F-650 with a straight rail frame, leaf springs front and rear, and a tilt hood. You can get factory 4X4 and rear air suspension on 4X2's too. But, they ride ROUGH with no weight in them. Sit pretty tall too.
Sorry about the engine situation, but it sounds like the resolution is heading in the right direction.
I’m amazed that a trailer big enough for 3 cars with any additional material in it is only 2500lbs, that really seems pretty light even for an aluminum trailer that size.

OP can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's saying the cars are 9,500lb combined and the trailer with gear weights 12,000lb...21,500lb combined which is just over half of the 40,000lb rating he referenced.
Well, if Ford made the same number of trucks that Porsche makes in cars, you can believe they would also be better built! 38K 911 built in 2021 vs 26-27K per month of Super Duty trucks built. Kind of hard to put the quality time in when they are flying past on the assembly line.
For me that would be a scary thing to see on a truck that belongs to me.
Makes me want a lift soooo bad, I assume they have built them with cab off service in mind. Might take you a bit longer to R&R the cab but the work area makes it worth while , fewer mistakes when you are not trying to build a ship in a bottle.
I understand that lifting the cab is commonplace for a lot of repairs these days but as an old school chevy guy that engine is really intimidating.
And it is really cool seeing the pics. Best of luck with the replacement!

Don’t get me wrong, very nervous of the repair. But I’ll judge it when it’s done, not when it’s in progress. Being late doesn’t help, I’m missing a race weekend now. But if it’s not perfect when I pick it up, I won’t have the patience for them to make it right. I’ll just demand a new truck and compensation.
