So I have the permanently locked R hub on my 2024. I decided to stop by the dealer today to see if they'd honor the SSM 52423. We'd have to jump through all the hoops and attempt to reproduce a grinding sound. At that point, they may not even honor the warranty. Frankly, I don't want to deal with all that. I was about to buy the hub and little vacuum line and do it myself, but after I looked under the truck, there is no capped vacuum line over there by the R front upper ball joint. That means I'd have to route the whole vacuum line.
Anyone have the part number for the whole vacuum line? Is it HC3Z-3C124-B? Seems like a lot of vacuum line.
Why do you think Ford put a locked hub on these truck for a brief period? Supply chain issues? Doesn't Ram always have one side locked with their CAD setup?
Feel free to share any experiences, or if you've ever been denied warranty on this.
I've heard a lot of people have good luck with this.
What you could say... and what I said is that it makes a slight grinding noise when I'm towing and 4x4 is engaged. I told them I heard there was a SSM for it, and they went ahead and did it. My dealership was a pain for a lot of other reasons, but they did the SSM in the end. Now that you've told them you just want it done, they might still give you grief, but who knows. If there's another one around your area, it might be easier to just go to someone new if they still give you problems.
There are some great existing threads that cover the parts required, experiences with getting the dealer to perform the fix, comparisons to RAM's system, and theories as to why Ford did this.

Well, I didn't proclaim that there isn't a noise. Service guy said drop it off and they'll test it, but just seems like a lot of hassle for a small thing. I'd rather just buy the parts and do it, but now it's getting more complicated if there's no vacuum line there. Not to mention, I'm concered if there is a bigger problem down the line, they might deny warranty saying I prevoiusly worked on the vehicle myself, etc.
The dealer did my 2024. I went in with the ssm printed out and showed them and they said to drop it off. Mine didn't have the vac line; they had to put all new in

That's what a reasonable service department would do. They also get paid for warranty work don't they? So I don't see what the big deal is for them not to honor it.
I had this issue with mine. I went to go get it fixed and they wouldn’t even have a conversation with me or listen. The best I got was “we will need a tech to look at it.”
I got tired of trying to get them to fix it and put a set of warn hubs in mine that I purchased from another member on here.
Dealers don’t like doing warranty work because yes they may get paid, but it isn’t as much as if you are out of warranty and have to pay it out of your pocket.
I wanted to order the locking hub + tube assembly from Eastgate Ford Parts Canada. They told me the part# given is for the driver side only and does not fit on the passenger side. They said the hublock I want has been discontinued. Do the L/H versus R/H side lockhub differ due to the direction of rotation?
Well I got them parts. These are the latest part numbers if anyone else is interested. Other part number should cross-reference to these. Unless this is just old stock they had left over.
Gotta say this is nice. Been driving clunkers for so long that anytime you order a part from the dealer, it's on "universal back-order" indefinitely.

I took a copy of the SSM with me to my dealer. He agreed to "give" me the replacement hub if I returned the old hub to him - which I did. My vacuum hoses to the right wheel were already installed. He wrote repair ticket, gave me the hub, I returned to old hub the next day, easy peasy ........

when i first saw this problem right after getting my 2024 i went to the dealer and showed them the SSM and they wanted me to wait 3 weeks for the parts to come in. so i got the parts myself from a different dealer in one day and put them on. when my dealer finally got back with me on putting in the parts i showed him what i did and he traded out the new parts for the hub i removed and i told him to just take credit for the repair. so now i have the 3 parts to do this repair on my shelf,,,

That's pretty good. Thanks for sharing. Need to find a stealership that would do that.
