I am looking to purchase a 2021 ford f550 with the 6.7 powerstroke from a second hand dealer. My 2 big questions are what are the main issues with that year engine/truck and what should I look for at the dealership so I don't break down on the way home? I know to check the oil and stuff like that but this new of a truck is new territory for me so I'm not 100 percent sure of what to look for. Any advice is needed and appreciated.
Other than the usual stuff (ie. oil level/color, leaks, sounds, etc), not sure if there is much you can visually check while on the lot. Gut feeling goes a long way in these cases.
Unscrew the engine oil cap and just let it rest on the filler to see if there is any blowby. If it starts "floating" then not good.
If it's higher mileage, then many maintenance things will likely need to be addressed. These trucks have two cooling systems (2 radiators, 4 thermostats). Transmission fluid is checked from a plug under the truck (no dipstick). Two fuel filters (one in tank, one in engine bay).
