My friend is putting together a '54 pickup with a 351 and a C4. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a particular shifter for the c4. Today he told me he'd like to see it sit at the top center of the tunnel.so it works nicely with the narrow bucket seats he has in mind. Here's a picture too. I'm assuming one of those connections is for downshifting and the other is for the shifter. Looks like something might be missing too. Sorry about the picture. After about 20 tries to get it flipped clockwise and shrunk in size, I just concede that even simple technology kicks my butt 100% of the time. Sorry.
Any suggestions for a shifter would be appreciated.
Thanks much.
Scott
The upper lever(left in your photo) is the shift lever. The other lever is the kick down lever for dropping into second when cruising and you need some RPMs and power, e.g. like passing someone. Other than the clips for the levers it looks intact.
There is also usually a neutral safety/reverse switch mounted on the shaft between the levers.
There are several brands and option for a floor mounted shifter, he just needs to look at several and pick one he likes.

I’ve had good luck with lokar and gennie shifters. The lokar is a cable through shaft with button actuation and the gennie is a gated shifter. Cool thing about the gennie is that you can use whatever shift **** you want.
I don't think you can go wrong with wither Gennie or Lokar. Both have good reputations and have been around a long time. It all depends on "your friend's" taste and style.
Also consider the length of the shifter. My 51 F1 has a Lokar with the short shifter installed (by PO), but included the taller shifter in the “other” parts box that came with the truck.
I like my Gennie shifter. The install was easy on a C-6 . I think the hardest part was getting the neutral safety switch adjusted, and that was probably more me than the switch . Dean
