I am currently having the motor and transmission switched out in my '53. And since I have things tore down I am thinking about switching out the shifter. Currently the shifter used on my C4 looks like it came out of a minivan. I am thinking about getting a Lokar shifter. Does anyone have any experience installing a Lokar? Which model should I go with? I am not sure if I should use one that mounts to the transmission or to the floor? You can see the current shifter.
I use them mounts on top trans, different handle sizes , they got the old look, quality . But I do not like about them is you can not feel the indent when you shift to R or D -- I like the B & M Z- Gate or the NEW truck one B & M has out-- Good Luck
That shifter looks like it came out of a Mustang. Those were made to be used with a center console. If you aren't running a console then a small box works well to raise them up to where they are more convenient to use.
I bought the Trans mount with a 23 inch tall shifter. I also have a c4 tranny. I too also don't like that you can't feel the indent when you shift but it looks like the old shifter handle that came in the truck
Thanks for the feedback. My main reason with going with the Lokar is it has a better look for the truck. I hate to hear that the action doesn't have the indent when shifting. I really like the Z-gate but my truck isn't isn't a race truck so it really won't fit the style of my truck.
Lokar has this add on gate for GM trans. You might want to call them and see if they have something similar for Ford transmissions or if this part can be adapted. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lok-s-6946
I used a Lokar 16 inch cable drive shift lever in mine, was originally thinking of installing a console. I'm now considering switching out the length to a 23 inch double bend..
