Black layer in degas

Black layer in degas
Hi Everyone,
Well, grandson's 05 had a black layer in the degas bottle. Truck used to be mine.
Dummy me immediately thought breached oil cooler. But, there was no emulsion.
I immediately drained coolant but it was clear. There's still a bit in the rad, will finish draining tomorrow.
Why didn't I skim the top to be sure it isn't fuel? Pre conceived notion I guess.
Anyway, I'll put it back and run it a bit to see what I get.
I did check degas pressures, nothing over about 12 psi when warming up from cold and after relief pressure never got to 16 psi.
Engine has over 300k miles, runs great, no smoking, no hard starts.
Once I get it running I'll see if it's oil or fuel. Either way it doesn't sound good.
Lots of work for papa to do.
