2005 6.0 Superduty hard start after sitting
The past couple of months, I noticed that the truck will crank but not start for an extended period of time. I always let the glow plugs warm up until the indicator light goes out. It will normally start up quickly if I start it every couple of days. If I let it sit for a week or more, (I use it sparingly since it does not get good gas mileage) it seems to crank for 45 or so seconds before it fires. I do not want to burn out the starter and am wondering what the problem may be.
In searching for clues, I see questions about the battery. (It cranks fast and the batteries do not appear to be the problem). There is some indication about a high pressure oil pump causing this, sounds confusing to me as I am not familiar with this problem, as oil pressure is good once the truck starts. The other problem may be a failing fuel pump, or the fuel draining back. Since the fuel pump is electric, and sits on the frame rail, I am not sure why it would drain back, since it would have to drain uphill.
The last thing I want to do is just throw parts at it, and would like to know if others have had this problem and what the solution is.
post a picture top engine in addition to the info in Bismic post maybe mentioned in that thread not sure

If you pull the secondary fuel filter out of the housing, there is fuel in the housing still, and if you suck that out it refills in a few seconds after cycling the key on, odds are it's not fuel. You can also rule out fuel by letting the pump run to kick off 3x times before trying to start it, then when it still takes 45 seconds it's not the fuel system. The truck will start on very very low fuel pressure, if it runs fine most likely electrical or high pressure oil problems.
