2004 F350 wants to start, but doesn't.

My truck was using coolant, and I couldn't figure out where. I sent it to a shop for diagnostics. They said EGR cooler was leaking, and there were codes for glow plugs.

I replaced the EGR cooler with a Sinister Diesel one and the oil cooler. I also replaced the glow plugs and harnesses.

After getting it back together and changing the oil, the truck cranks, and then starts to fire, but never completely starts.

I have Torque Pro. It seems the values are good. I have FICM-Sync,FMP = 47.5V HPOP= ~1500, and the ICP-V goes to 2.8. RPM is ~300.
I need to add the other recommended values and will post those later today.

I tried testing the fuel pressure, but my Harbor Freight fuel gauge says not to use on diesels, and didn't fit. I removed the secondary filter and it filled the bowl in 5.7 seconds.

On ignition on, I think I hear the injectors clicking.

All help is appreciated. I am supposed to go get a horse in Portland area after Thanksgiving, and I don't want to take the gas Dodge 2500.

PS I had the EGR cooler tested at a machine shop and they said it doesn't leak. They tested to 60 PSI. :-(

No-starts with your KOEO and cranking data typically end up being a fueling issue (supply flow or air in the fuel) or an injector issue. If not those things, the base engine requirements (like compression) become more of a possibility.

I would be looking for air in the fuel with the key on (be careful the secondary fuel filter housing will fill quickly) or when cranking (crank with a 3/4 full secondary fuel filter housing and the crank by jumpering the starter solenoid to the passenger battery (+) terminal (key off) and watch for bubbles.

You didn't mention codes other than glow plugs, could there be some? ........

@bismic There are no additional codes. There were previously, but I cleared them thinking they would come back if they were still active.

When I did the timing of the secondary fill, there were some air bubbles, but they were not big or many. I thought it was from filling from empty. I will try filling from 3/4 full tomorrow.

The fuel bowl empties over time. Is that normal?

How long does it take to empty?

It really shouldn't go empty when sitting, but if we are talking weeks or more, then it may not be enough to worry much about (IMO anyway).

Yeah, it should not be doing that.

Hmmm, I thought I replied to this thread...

There are no bubbles in the fuel bowl when cranking the engine.

I was playing with the SCT and saw an option to Read DTC codes.
I have :
P0673. Cylinder 3 Glow Plug Circuit/Open
P0675. Cylinder 5 Glow Plug Circuit/Open
P2614. Camshaft Position Signal Output Circuit/Open
P2617. Crankshaft Position Signal Output Circuit/Open

V-reference voltage is supposed to be 5 volts, not 10.8.

I have not been able to find "V-reference voltage" in the TorquePro PIDs.

The fuel pressure adaptor did not come yesterday. Hopefully today.

Found your PID formula:

In Torque Pro:

PID: 221155
Long name: Calibration Input Voltage
Short name: VREF
min. value: 0.0
max value: 5.0
Scale Factor: x1
unit type: Volts
Equation: ((A*256)+B)/13107
header: Auto

VREF is at 5v while cranking.

Here is a video of it not starting:

Fuel pressure goes to 70 PSI on key on, and stays there through cranking.
After turning key off, I can watch the fuel pressure drop to 20.

Thanks for your help.

With the confidence that all the computer inputs were working, I listened to the injectors with a screwdriver. I didn't hear anything on the passenger bank. I think I heard them on the driver's side bank.

When I took off the FICM, I found that the plug in the back was not connected.
Once I got it all back together, it fired up.

double check this
KOEO ICPV value out spec or touch high

I would have thought you would have more codes related to unplug FICM harness must be code reader thing
