I have a 2005 Ford F250 w/ the 6.0. My EGR cooler went out, so we replaced the water pump, theromastat, EGR Delete, oil cooler, Glow plug module, glow plugs, glow plug harness. The truck is not throwing any codes at all. The truck has 1 year old interstate batteries that are good.
When you first go to try and start the truck you have to turn the motor over for about 5 seconds, turn the key off, then back on and then the truck will start. I do notice some white smoke from the exhaust. Now when the truck is warm, it starts perfect, runs perfect, no issues what so ever. Its just when you first start the truck. I recently noticed some 'sludge' in the coolant resevoir not sure if that has to do with anything or not. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you very much!!!!
Hope you secured the o-rings in that new oil cooler....the sludge in the degas bottle has me worried. If you have a chance drop some coolant from the rad petcock and see if there is any oil residue present.
The long cranking sounds like something didnt get hooked back up right with the glow plugs. A code show be present though.
The sludge in the oil cooler sounds bad. Are you still running ford gold coolant?
Yeah I had a code saying 1 glow plug was bad, so I changed the entire side, and a new Harness, did the same exact thing. I was running the ford gold coolant when I had all the work done I just put some cheap **** in there, until I got everything figured out, then I was going to drain it and put the gold back in. This thing has me stumped! Thanks for your input!!!!
I would check your FICM voltage, there is a thread in the tech folder outlining the FICM test procedure, anything under 45 volts from KOEO, cranking, idle, WOT and anytime in between means the FICM needs to be repaired. You also need to get some gauges that read live data like the scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS devices or torque pro for android and if you don't mind spending a bit more the Edge Insight CTS is a nice option, the gauges will help you keep an eye on things and help you diagnose problems.

This decision is likely gonna come back to haunt you, the proper coolant has corrosion inhibitors and adding green coolant to the ford gold can cause it to gel ( if there was any ford gold left in the system )

DONT put the gold coolant back in unless you like having expensive issues with your truck.

Yes I am well aware. Have you never seen someone change their spark plugs and fail to get one or more plugged back in right?
I have.
I just replaced the FICM 3 years ago, I didn't think it was that. What kills me is that the Ford dealer can't tell me the problem! I love this truck, but its about to **** me off.....

I get you...been there. Take a deep breath....there is nothing that can't be figured out or fixed to get you back up and running as before (or better than before). Just have to be patient and work through it.
I have searched this site for hours, and I just read a similiar situation, and it was the starter. A weak starter drawing to much juice. Has anyone ever heard that? how would you check that?
I just talked to the dealer. The cold start issues they said was the fuel filter cap was not tight enough, and oil in the coolant resevoir, they said was the oil cooler. I just replaced that sucker!!! $3800 to fix, so for now it will sit in the garage until I feel like looking at again! obviously a bit pist off!!! Thanks everyone for the help!!
