checked the TPS, I was told there would be 1.2 v at middle wire at idle but I'm getting less than 1! And at wide open it read .24! So I pulled the connection at the pcm and checked the continuity and it is good.So based on no tach, OD light on, no voltage to TPS, and couldn't get code reader to communicate with truck does that mean the pcm is bad?
could there be a short to ground somewhere that I cant visually see? If so how do I find it (there were mice in this truck at one point)
The rpm (tachometer) gets its signal from the sensor screwed into the injection pump gear housing. The sensor is next to wear you add oil at the top from of the engine. Should have 2 wires coming out of it, They are known to fail. The transmission can't shift correctly without the tach signal, and I believe the OD light constantly on means the transmission is in limp mode. There is a way to read the codes, but I don't recall how.
If you were to read codes, you for sure would be getting at least the tach and TPS sensor codes and undoubtedly code 62 to go with it.
The first thing you need to do is ensure the fuses and relay are good. You didn't say which year truck, but this one shows both.
If you have a 92-94, be sure fuses I and U are not blown. For pre '92 trucks, just check all your fuses.
Make sure you double check your ATF with the engine HOT. I've read on our forum before that there isn't an E4OD in the salvage yard anymore that wouldn't need a rebuild first. 😕

This isn't a fluid level issue. The E4OD is electronically controlled and he has no tach sensor and his TPS sensor is reading way out of wack. The trans simply cannot function properly without these inputs. A fresh reman swapped in it's place with perfect fluid level wouldn't even function 1% better.
