Axle rust

So if you’ve followed my post history my stepdad has a 2003 f350 that’s basically on its last legs of life and once it craps out I’m going to steal the axles off it refurbish them and put them on an OBS once I get one

i was out there earlier just examining them and saw the rear one had a lot of scale built up on it would you guys say this is far gone to fix up or still workable? Obviously I know I’ll have to replace the other parts like the diff cover and leaf spring hardware but I’m talking about the main axle housing (side note how thick are the walls on these 10.5 sterlings even?)
