I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me what axle is in my dump truck? Maybe some sort of Eaton? The front is a Dana60 Closed Knuckle with a 4.88 gear per the tag. The rear doesn't have a tag.
Plus it's a passenger side drop and looking at its' cover appears to be limited slip. It has a 771/2 -79 hood and a two piece pre 771/2 grille w/ "F550" lettering The truck is a real beast that's for sure
I'm gonna give that the "Coolest Dentside" on the forum award. 1 Ton (conversion?), 4WD, Supercab, dump bed, custom lettering on a '73 grill, and '78/'79 letters on the hood. Welcome to FTE. Is see you're a brother. There's at least two others in this thread.
Great minds Brother ! I wonder what transfer case it's running?
I am guessing a NP-203 or NP-205 , but with the passenger side drop style axle, the xfer would have to be the same style, correct? So that might be a chebby xfer case? I agree tough F550 AND 4wd, and SC.
Here's a little history on this truck. I saw it parked at a guys house, I contacted him and he told me it wasn't for sale (of course). So I asked him that if he ever wanted to sell it, let me know. A year later, he called and said he was done hauling gravel and the truck was for sale and I had dibs. HOW MANY TIMES does that EVER work out! I've had High Boys in the past but this one is WAY different. I am thinking it's probably built from 3 or more trucks. The truck is now mine and I am trying to get it all figured out. It runs and drives spectacular and the dump works great. The cab is is from central California, according to the VIN it was a 1979 F-100 4x4. That is for sure not the case now!
It does have a few leaks from seals which will be replaced soon. Here are some pictures, any help would be appreciated.
What chassis is this?
Final answer on the Rearend?
Thank you!
Woodscustom
Thanks again guys.
PS I'm trying to find the guy that built it in Springfield MO
Does the chassis have this cross member?
How long is the wheel base? Is there any signs of the frame being spliced like a diamond shaped plate on the outside of both frame rails?
On the rear axle is there any additional information in the areas designated in the first illustration I posted?
