F600 help

I have extinguished all my resources looking for the answer to this, but my friend and i bought a 78(i think) f600 dump truck recently and need help discerning the vin plate. F60CCDH3274 176 wheel base 19200 gvwr color t (candy apple red?) type f602 4x2 i'm guessing. Body is AA8, trans A (np435 if shared code with 350 and smaller) axle E3J (no idea and under trans is a 21. Any help into the axle would be greatly appreciated, i need to rebuild front and rear brakes, and all new rubber lines.

Welcome to FTE! I moved you here as this is the forum for F600s etc.

F60CCDH3274

F60 = F600 gas, 4x2

C = 370 2V "Lima" gas V8 ('79 is the first year for 370/429)

C = Ontario Truck Plant

DH3274 = 1979 numerical series, probably late '78 production. (IF it was produced early enough, it may have been sold in '78. Sometimes this results in the wrong model year on the title)

176 = 176 inch wheelbase

T = Red

F602 = F600 gas, 4x2, 19,200 lbs GVWR

AA8
AA = Probably black vinyl. I do not have the decoder ring for '79
8 = Regular cab, cab and chassis vehicle.

A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission

E3J
E3 = Eaton model 16244 two speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 6.50 / 9.04 ratios
J = Ford 5,000 lb capacity front axle with power steering ('77/ indicating 1977 to end of the period covered--1979 in this case)
OR

J = Ford 4,700 lb capacity front axle, " Tire carrier w/manual steering" ('78/'79, indicating MY '78 & '79 only)

21 = Atlanta District Sales Office
if there were 4 more digits, it would be a special order but it appears it is not--in which case it's bought off the dealer lot.

A couple things to check:

Engine--an FT engine, the prior engine for these, has its intake manifold extend under the valve covers. The valve covers have 5 bolts.
The 370 engine does not have an intake under the valve covers and has 7 bolts holding the valve covers down.

Rear axle weight rating should help with brake size. What kind of wheels? Disc or spoke?

Front axle--do you have power steering?

Transmission--the NP435 in the medium truck has a larger input shaft than the pickup version so beware if you need to swap it out.

If you are new to the two speed axle, Eaton videos are in this post.

Brake drums are barn find or scap yard only at this point. But they are pretty robust so yours are probably good.

Looks like it will haul whatever pops up!

Yes, that was my post on facebook, thank you for all the info, we just stuck a new carb on it and are working on getting that dialed in. It had a very rough Holley1412 that was leaking horribly so we got a evilbay oem style 2300 to put on. Next is tracking down wheel cylinders and soft lines for the brakes and adding a spacer behind the alt to lock down spacing. We lucked out and picked up the truck for under $500. Rear end does shift and was used in low gear when pulling it onto the trailer.

Thanks.

I work at Oreillys customer service. Give me the year, what size brake shoes, bore of the wheel cylinder if possible and which wheels you need cylinders for. And I can see if I can find some numbers. I'm hoping it didn't have the Lucas Griling brakes on it. Not sure when they went to them. They were a pain to work on. All the snow plows we worked on had them in the 80's. Here is looking up without sizes. These are brake best numbers from oreilly. They are old numbers may have to interchange. The 1 1/2 " numbers ETC. are the wheel cylinder bore.

Here are the rear shoe numbers, will be a 542 543 or 544 depending on width of shoe. The front are showing brake pads. depending on which caliper it has.
Dayton 2.50 caliper will use MKD224 the Dayton 2.88 caliper will use MKD236 hope this helps

Thank you so much for the help. It will probably be 2 weeks before we get it up in the air and check brakes. We have to transition to finishing work on the greenhouse before the cold hits us here
