I bought my 85 F150 a little over a month ago and went to get spare keys cut. The new keys were too thick to fit in the cylinder. None of the locksmiths I visited had a blank that would fit the keyway. So I did the logical thing and just purchased a new cylinder and it also has the thin key way. Does anybody know a source for these keys or do I just need to send this back and try another vendor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Who did you buy it through and who made the lock?
I want to say I heard of this before but dont remember what the fix was?
Dont remember if it was on here or on Gary's site and was years ago.
When I had keys made years ago the local hardware store did it for me IIRC.

I have always had keys made at the Ford dealership. Haven't had one made for years now, but very good keys that work.
That may be his problem. A made in china tumbler with a american made key. He might have some better results getting the key made at walmart or somewhere like that.

If it is an aftermarket tumbler go to that mfgr and see which blanks for it. If it's just a matter of thickness might be able to modify the fatties
I would go to my Ford parts dealer for help in getting a real tumbler.

Sad thing is, the Ford dealer sells china junk also. I bought my first replacement tumbler from the dealer years ago, and the casting on the chrome part was rough looking. But it did work ok.
I wonder if there are any other models that use the same tumbler? Knowing that a guy might be able to find a replacement in a junkyard, if the keys were available too. Just one more reason to keep your tumbler well protected with lubricant from time to time. I have the original keys with the ID tag on them put away. I use those to get keys made from. If you have the tag that's all that's needed to get a replacement from what I've been told.
I bought through PartsGeek. The irony is that I was replacing a cylinder that I couldn't get replacement keys for as it was too narrow for normal ford keys to fit.

You have the same problem with the parts geek offering? They would be my last choice for parts. I would check LMC, Dennis Carpenter and Bronco Graveyard first for Ford specific parts. I ordered a battery tray from the geeks, they sent me the wrong part. Wasn't even a Ford part. Then for the return they hassled me no end. Required I take photos of the wrong part. Took a long time to get a return authorization. I vowed at that time to put them at the very bottom of my parts acquisition list.
