Fuel Return Lines

1978 F150 2wd, 351m, C6 auto, dual tanks.

I have two questions in relation to return fuel line

1. I’m planning on doing a Holley Sniper on my trucks. Their suggestion and kit comes with a fuel bung that is drilled into the tank for a return fuel line. I really don’t want to be putting holes in my new gas tanks (installed earlier this year) and don’t want to do any of the tricks like filling it with water ext so it does not blow up on me. So my question is does anyone know of a sending unit that will fit in the front or rear tanks that also has a return line hook up. There has to be one out there and I’m surprised one has not been made for these trucks or talked about.

2. Holley on had a set up for a single return. Anyone have a work around for fuel return lines if you have a dual tank setup? I want to keep the factory selector switch on the dash working if possible.

I was running a Sniper until this spring when troubleshooting became too difficult. I ended up buying the bronco style retrofit tank that’s 38 gallons and just have the one now with the Holley in tank fuel pump. It’s pushing 65 psi to a fuel regulator and the return off that back to the tank, with only a 12” section to the carb. With the return and a carb spacer I haven’t had any issues with fuel boiling like I used to in my Mustang.

At some point I may clean and reinstall the saddle tank. I had planned on running an inline external fuel pump and T into the return line to the rear. When the gauge reads 1/4 tank, flip the factory selector to front for level reading and wire the additional pump off a relay with the trigger coming from the selector, or a dozen other ways.

My idea was to keep the high pressure system only in one tank with the aux refill as low pressure and otherwise completely separate.

had to flatten out the top so the assembly would seal, but otherwise a perfect fit. Used the factory vent so looped to the original outlet, which you could also use for an aux fill from a second remote tank, which is probably what I’d originally intended.
