Here is how my 300 / 4.9 cables are run
Where the negative is bolted to the frame and a insulated tab that holds the positive cable both going to the starter.

Thats a nice clean set up there. Unfortunately my exhaust pipes run a little tighter than yours and put off a ton of heat. I routed my ground wire to the frame and then back to the block near the front behind the Alternator. And i bring the positive in from from starter to under the AC and then up to land at my relay.

I have a 300 straight six but run the EFI exhaust manifolds (87>) with the factory Y pipe and why the pipe looks the way it does.
But the cables are run just like the factory did for the 80> 300 six motors..
