Trans interchangeable

I have a 04 f150 heritage 4.6l rwd the transmissions went out it has the two sensors I have a trans out of a 99f150 4.6l rwd I was told the new one has a single sensor and different pcm plug on harness I need to know if it’s possible to get the 99 trans in the 04

There are too many differences between a pre-2003 and a post-2003 4R70W to make this swap possible without tearing down the trans and swapping several of the hard parts, plus most of the electronics. Anything is possible, this is not feasible.

hey mark thanks for the reply can u tell me what other transmission would be comparable for my truck because finding one affordable with the set up my truck has had really been impossible

Allegedly, if you have the “1L3P” code transmission, it’s a good bit easier to find a swap donor

The “4L3P” seems to be a 2004 Heritage truck only idea.

There should be a white tag on the driver's side of the trans with this information.

Could I use this one from the 99 if I got the pcm reprogrammed

That says XL3P.

In 2003 the number of holes that the output sensor reads changed. Putting a pre-2003 trans in a 2004 truck is going to cause problems with the speed sensor. The trans will not shift right, if it shifts at all. I recommend not using that transmission, or if you need to use it, rebuild it to 2004 specs.

you wouldn’t have access to or know where I can get the step by step guide on disassemble and rebuild instructions
