Instrument cluster swap.

I swapped my 88’ cluster with an 89 bronco cluster. My voltage gauge and my oil pressure gauges don’t work now. They did before I swapped. I’m thinking possibly a grounding issue. They are both pegged below zero when I turn the key on. Is there a difference between the 89 bronco and 88 F250 sending unit or any inline resistors I might be over looking? I know the bronco cluster had a IVR on the back of the cluster and the F250 doesn’t.

If you are referring to the black box on the back of the IP from the Bronco, that is not an IVR. That is a module to operate the "Engine" light whenever the OP or temp gauges get out of range.

I had looked up the number on the edge of that PCB with the black on it and it came up as “Gauge cluster Voltage Regulator” E7TF-10E850. Wasn’t sure if that could be my issue. When the key in on the volt and oil Pressure gauge pegs below zero. Key off it sits at zero.

Now I found that it’s the multi function dash warning indicator. Stupid internet searches!!! So I guess that’s not my problem

The ‘88 could have a real gauge while the ‘89 will be an oil pressure “idiot light” with a needle.

The ‘88 does not have the resistor

My4Fordtrucks is right, the 88 cluster is for a "real" gauge. You can obtain that by replacing your OP sending unit for an earlier model that has the real gauge. When I did this conversion on my '91, I used a sender from a 1985. The one you want will be bigger than the one you have now, which can lead to fitment problems if you have a Windsor V8. In that case, use an adaptor from a 65 Mustang with 289.

couldn’t I jumper out the resistor? Also I didn’t even notice that resistor. Is there a schematic anywhere for the actual ribbon circuit boards?

Yes. That is how you convert the cluster to use a real sending unit (which you already have).

I’m not sure about the voltmeter. Do you know if that newer cluster worked before or did you just buy the Bronco cluster? You could try swapping the gauge with the one from your old cluster.

Oops, sorry, I got mixed up as to what you had originally and what you swapped in.

Thanks all! Removed the diode and figured out that the vinyl sticker over the plastic on the gauge had slide down cause the voltmeter to get hung up and not move!
