Thank you for all of the replies on my oil issues thread. In my search I came across a company that will rebuild my motor for me and offers a 3yr 75k warranty. They are going to put in flat top pistons, do a 3 angle valve job, and add a RV cam. I already have a Weiand intake along with a 650 edelbrock. I will be adding some headers to help it breath better and likely a dual 2.5" exhaust. I am pretty excited to get this engine done and back on the road. What do you guys think of the small build? I am hoping it will be a pretty fun weekend pickup. If I haven't said it before it is going in a 72 sport custom highboy with a 4spd manual trans. I am guessing with those mods i will be between 300-350 crank hp which is going to be a huge jump from where I am currently (stock)
What exhaust do you guys think will sound the best? I was thinking about using some flow master 40s? That is the only sound clip I seem to be able to find. Any suggestions would be appreciated though!
Flat tops can yeild different compression ratios. Mine came in about 9.5/10:1. I use Flowmaster 50 series through 2.5" duals with a cross over and I really like them. Not too loud untill you romp on it. I normally don't like Flowlmaster sound.
I have Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers on my 78 Bronco and like the way they sound, but I really don't like the way Flowmasters sound.
About your build - if they use flat top pistons you're probably going to be around 12:1 compression in a 400, too high for anything but race gas.

Thanks guys! Do you guys happen to have any sound links?
Flowmaster 40’s are pretty loud and have a fair bit of drone to them
I ran 50’s on my 77 F-150 and liked the sound
I like the sound Magnaflow mufflers make
