Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro - Made in USA isn't Always Great

Bought a new set of Patagonia A/T Pro tires for my Super Duty last Friday. 295/70R18, load index 129. Made in the good old U.S.A. 55,000 mile warranty. 30 day ride guarantee. Light weight tire. Priced middle of the pack. They checked all the boxes.

Drove the 40 miles home from the closest Discount Tire shop, and got out my torque wrench to start double-checking the lug nut torque which is a habit of mine when I leave tire stores. As I got to the driver side front tire I noticed a knot protruding out from the sidewall. DOH! Never good, and especially not on a 8k lb. truck that sometimes tows a 26' trailer.

So, the Discount Tire store gave me two options. They'll replace the faulty tire with another. Or, I can claim the Milestar 30 day guarantee and swap them out for another set of tires from a different brand. I'll have to think on it and let them know tomorrow what I want to do.

That's a fluke. I'd swap that one out. Probably a new guy made it of some random mistake was made.

Wow!

Toyo is my favorite. Not sure if they make tires like that though.

i have seen that with a lot of tire brands. most of the time it comes from the band used during shipping to bundle the tires being too tight.
and cooper tire is now owned by goodyear.

I was really eyeballing the Yokohama Geolandar A/T XD before I bought these, so I think I'm going to swap these out for the Yokos. Those have a 3-ply sidewall that's stronger and will likely be a better tire. The Milestars have a couple of other negative qualities I've quickly learned also (worst tire I've ever owned at picking up gravel, and I live on a gravel road that's 0.75 mile long and they also deflect under the weight of the truck around curves which will get interesting when I tow my camper) so combined with the sidewall issue on this one tire I think I'm just going to swap them out for a set of the Yokohama XDs.

I have a set of Yokohama Geolandar MTs on my Bronco and would consider another set of Yokohamas, good tires IMO. I've run Cooper, BF Goodrich, Toyo, Falken, Goodyear, Big-O, and Les Schwab on other things over the years. Out of all those, Les Schwab would be last I'd buy again because they just didn't last. Currently running Yokohama, Cooper, and Falken.

Hi,
I ran a similar tire, Milestar Patagonia A/T R all terrain LT245/70R17 on a base model chevy 1500 for 8 years, and found them to wear like iron. I did have to replace two of the tires over that 80,000 mile period, due to going over a pothole and having the tire go way out-of-round (ie likely broken belt). Because this happened twice, I'm slightly less than 100% about the tires, but were impressed with the tread-wear...

This tire (Patagonia AT Pro) is one of two I'm trying to decide on from Americas tire for a compact 4x4 pickup. It currently has a set of Goodyear Duratracs that are WAY beyond their safe service life. Contrary to the experience of some, I was very impressed, and found them to be a long lasting, good performing tire on this truck. I'm looking for a lower price point this time around, especially with how much tire pricing has increased over the years. The other tire I was considering is the Cooper AT 2. The Cooper has some mixed reviews about tread life, balancing, ride quality, and the Milestar has very few reviews. I was leaning towards the Milestar, even though it would cost a little more than the Cooper, but now I'm second guessing it...and I need to hurry cause the promos end 12/01 😆.

My Kenda RT's were pretty cheap. Waiting for a wheel sale to get Kenda MT2's.

The Pata's are pretty obsolete now.
