I just ordered these valve covers. My stock ones had rust holes in them. I’m hoping they fit over the rockers. If they don’t, I’ll try to make them work or try something else.

Does anyone have anything bad to say about the rocker arms themselves?

Smart to check where the tip hits the valve, can shim it if needed. The kit was about $20 for FMS shims.

You really should upgrade that cam, they are pretty weenie stock. You do not even need a big one to make a big boost in power all over. Lift will make more power, but not nearly as much as you are expecting.

EDIT - Stock springs pretty flaccid, best bang to me is the TFS kit for these heads. Pretty sure PAC makes them for TFS, good stuff.
I would like to change the cam but Iv never done that before and I don’t have the time to learn right now but I will in the future for sure. my family is need for a second vehicle again. My truck has been parked for over two months now and I’m ready to get it back on the road so I’m just doing what I know for now.

I ordered shims and iv been educating myself on installing rocker arms. I’m prepared to sharpe the tip of my valve stems and try to get the rockers to torque to spec within a 1/4 to 3/4 of a turn with the lifter at its lowest point and rotate my engine by hand and then uninstall the rocker arm to see if my wear mark is centered.

The remand gt40 heads I got came new springs and valves. I don’t know the spring rating. What is a TFS kit?

With taller valve covers, you probably will need to raise the intake.

Pretty sure guide plates are not for pedestal mount, not sure why you are asking that question.
I have a push rod measuring tool I’m prepared to use. I don’t want to take the heads back off to have them seats ground down. I’d rather return my rocker arms to the original 1.6. Iv talked to someone who has done this with out needing taller valve covers but Iv also talked to people that did so the best I can do is try, adapt, and overcome. I was asking about ped mount guild plates because I heard they were a thing and I seen a guy on YouTube that wasn’t very satisfied with the left and right sway moment of the rocker arm during installation. I understand that the way these rocker arms are made, the beveled bottom keeps them from swaying but how well does that really work? Which brings me to one of my main questions, what is the reliability of these rocker arms? I’m looking for something I won’t have to replace for atleast 10 years or more. I don’t drive hard very often but I do sometimes.

Em's puuurrr'd,You will notice the smile on your face, when it starts screaming a little louder, right before it shifts, my passenger side had to be massaged with 1 lick from a BFH, where PVC went in, been fine ever since.

Their reliability is fine.

As long as purchased from reputable vendor. (summit, jegs, speedway)

The counterfeit ones sold for cheap elsewhere, not so much.

I used those on my ‘96 351w. No complaints. The Scorpion techs were good to deal with and helpful with a phone call question. I’ll use them again. I was happy to stay with the oem billet steel cam. This set up was recommended to me by techs at Ford Performance, and I was able to stay within the limits of a stock PCM.

They fit into the mounting plates well, and had very little play. No issues setting them true.

I had to modify the oil baffle on a set of stock valve covers as well. I’ve read in a few threads it’s hit or miss if they will work or not (no pun intended). Using the steel core rubber gaskets.

I measured pushrods and took my time setting everything up true. I bought shims, but did not need any.

You can wade through my build thread. Starting around pg. 32-34 is where I got into the Scorpion roller rockers and springs. Pg. 53 (Post #789) has the valve cover mod.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...roject-32.html

Somewhere in my thread I linked an article of gains made by roller rockers, on a SBC. I could not find anything for ford.

Few random pics for your reference.

Thank you for chiming in and reassuring me that my plans for the rockers seem to be pretty solid. I’ll definitely be checking out your rebuild thread. I also bought shims, I’m hoping I don’t need them but they were only $30.

Should I put oil in my engine before putting rockers on? I don’t want to de prime my lifters by rotating the engine by hand but I also don’t want to torquing in a mess of oil do I? What does everyone else do?

Do you mean for setting the valve lash?

Pg 28 on my thread addresses the lifter. Not sure how you could keep one pumped up with oil while doing this.

I made a solid lifter using washers out of an old one. Just make sure you don’t get it mixed up with the other ones, it’s only used for setting up.

They are ped mount, I would torque em and run the engine in...then pop the driver cover to see if they need to be shimmed

FYI, my Crane did not in the '88.

I made the mistake of putting my intake back on before installing my rocker arms so now I can’t access the lifters unless I want to redo my intake gaskets
