Considering Customer Installed Camera
But ...
I just completed 5,000 miles towing with the 2025, and have decided I am losing patience with another external screen to manage, especially when I can view 8 different cameras on the built in screen. I swore I did not need the integrated camera package when I ordered the truck. I was wrong. I have changed my mind. I am likely going to order the camera package and install it.
Since I have never seen it in person though, I want to make sure I understand everything entailed. Can the customer installed camera be installed where my Furrion is, namely in the middle marker light hole up high? Is it designed for this placement? Does it need any wiring other than the cable that I will need to run from the camera all the way to the pin box area? Does that cable have a plug on it than can not be removed, maning I will have to fish a thick plug 30 feet across the trailer?
Does the camera wire plug in to the round outlet next to the 7 pin?
Do people typically zip tie the new cable to the trailer 7 pin cable?
Lookiong for feedback from those who have recently installed one of these on their fifth wheel. Thanks.
Yes it all plugs into the 12 pin connector. The harness comes with a socket for the bumper in case you don't already have it. You probably have an in-bed plug already. Some things depend on what options you purchased with the truck, like the Pro trailer stuff or the 5th wheel prep.
Yes I zip tied my 7-pin and the new 12 pin umbilicals together. You don't have to, but I like it that way.
I would recommend you combine the trailer TPMS system with your Camera puchase. It all plugs together and connects to the truck via that 12 pin.
The newer model camera can mount wherever you want. You can put it up next to the Furrion I'm sure, but it does not connect to a rear marker like the Furrion does. I would suggest you leave the Furrion right where it is and find a spot for the new camera. I tested locations and found I liked a lower mount position than the roofline. But the position is entirely up to you. The camera surface mounts, or you can flush mount it if you want to cut some holes in the rear cap.
I like the camera a lot, and of course I like not having another monitor on my dash. But what I don't like about it is that, backing into a campsite for example, every time you shift from R to D or P, the view on your screen will change. If you are jockeying into a campsite for example, and going forward and back repeatedly, you will have to select the trailer camera each time. My wife has taken over the task of managing the camera view while I'm positioning the trailer. I don't ask her to get out and direct me anyway, because I've got mirrors and cameras and I want to stay married to this lady. Anyway, I still consider it an annoyance. I have read that some people have figured out how to make the trailer camera come on each time they shift to reverse, when a trailer is connected, instead of the tail gate camera. I have not figured out a way to do that on my '24.
Regarding the Furrion, like I said, leave it there and you might decide you like both, or at least the option to have both. It won't hurt anything just sitting up there without a monitor synced up. And the new camera is not going to be a direct mount interchange.

Yeah my 2025 has 360 camera, fifth wheel in bed obviously, but none of the back up assist stuff. I assume it is still plug (and wire) n play.
I have read about the camera view changing when going in and out of reverse. that is very annoying. Pretty sure it does that now for the bed camera for example when I am hooking up the fiver. have to select the camera each time.
Regarding TPMS ... those are in tire installs right? I guess I can add that but an extra headache to have the stems installed. Hmm...
Yes you would have to install sensors in each tire. Any tire shop can do that. I tried to do it myself but ended up giving up on it, and then the tire shop ended up doing it for me for free. I promised to buy some tires from them someday.

If you search my posts from within the last 15 months or so you will see some info and photos of things I encountered doing this. I had some issues with my TPMS sensors and trailer wheels but I think they were very specifically my trailer and you are unlikely to have any of that. The second most difficult thing was figuring out what parts I needed. Once I had that it went pretty easily.
I removed the Ford camera from the enclosure that it was in. I then drilled a hole in the bumper and the camera pokes out that hole. The cable is routed under the trailer. I have a Furrion camera mounted up above the cargo ramp that I still use every once in a while. On my previous trailer I routed the cable on the roof. I never liked that, but it was a travel trailer/toy hauler, so it made sense to route it high.
