Cable length for install says 32' trailer. What length cable does that translate to and can you get an extension. Instructions found for camera/tpms combo have an extra cable, but also look like I need to replace bumper 7 pin/4 pin connector with 7/12 pin connector. Is this for tpms or camera or both? My 5th wheel cable currently plugs into the adapter in sidewall of bed so I don't want cable hanging over tailgate. This seems like I would at least have another cable to run to bumper for camera. This would be ok for trailer hitch, but not hanging out there for camera. Some places sell adapters for bed or extension cables, but price just keeps climbing for all these add ons.
I have a Garmin RV770 gps that will use a bluetooth camera. I'm thinking this would be a cheaper alternative.
Ideas? Suggestions? Opinions?
I was also thinking of the addon for camera view while in motion. The gps camera wired to constant power would do this and in motion adapter would cover the rest.
The optional “customer placed trailer camera” is hardwired to a replacement connector in the rear bumper (7 + 4 replaced by 7 + 12-pin camera + TPMS combined; pic below). You first need the Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System (option code 874) — which is usually an option — along with SYNC 3.
The Ford CPTC kit includes the replacement connector assembly and two cable harness that connect in series. I suspect the combined length is ~45 ft. I looped,up,the excess and hung it on our camper’s ladder (see pic above).
Nichols Manufacturing sells a 10' extension cable for the video cable. What I cannot find is evidence that the cable that comes with the Ford OEM Camera Only kit is actually two cables connected in series. Nichols' extension does not end in the round twelve pin plug the goes into your plug in your bed right beneath the 7 way plug .So the Nichols extension cable must connect mid cable to rectangular plugs. If the Ford OEM cable is two piece, then it seems the extension will work. Anybody know if the Ford OEM cable is two piece in the camera only kit? It definitely is in the kit that includes the TPMS for the trailer, but I want the camera only kit. Thanks.
My fifth wheel is 32' 5" . I mounted the camera at the top of the rear cap and ran the cable down the ladder, under the trailer and into the front storage compartment. At that point, it ties into cable that runs through the pin box to the 7pin over 12 pin connection in the bed. I think the standard kit would work on a 35' fifth wheel. Any longer than that would require an extension.
Was your cable in two pieces with a connector somewhere in the middle between the plug end that goes into the camera and the plug end that goes into the round 12 pin connector on the truck?

Yes, it is two separate harnesses.
This side has the 12 pin connector on the truck end.
It feeds through the pin box and under the skin of the overhang into the front storage compartment where it has a "Y" (lower right). Upper right is the wireless tpms receiver, middle is the connection for the two harnesses.
Clean install all around. Cable runs down the ladder and is barely noticeable.
Leaving on a 16 day, 3000 mile road trip tomorrow so the trailer is out of storage and sitting in front of the house so I could snap a few photos.
I have a 30' 5th wheel, and I have quite a bit extra cable looped up at my kingpin. I use the bumper plug (7/12 pin), but plan on getting an in bed plug someday soon. Nichols makes probably the cleanest and easiest setup for this. The cable would "T" off from the bumper plug to wherever you place the in bed plug. You can call Nichols and let them know what you have and what you want, and I'm pretty sure they can fix you up.
I went with the Ford camera because I didn't want all the extra stuff in the cab, and all over the dash. It might not be as good as some of the aftermarket stuff, but it is clean and it does what I need it to do.
My camper is a 33' overall, and I have extra cable (3'-5' maybe?) bundled up and tucked into the underbelly of the trailer. Cable is run down one side of the frame of the trailer, then up the back about 6' to the camera.
I have a complete TPMS wiring harness and plugs/kit minus the sensor and TPMS module.

This is how the kit comes as the "Camera Only" kit. The kit with everything would be the same, PLUS the TPMS module and sensors.
In the oil field, we always had a "rolling tail board"..... It was easy on the winch cable and allowed skid mounted equipment to come aboard without any strain.

Camera is mounted near the roof, in the center.
Cable goes towards the street side, down to the frame, up to the generator compartment where the cable ends. The included connection cables in the truck side harness were long enough to go from the pin box to the gen compartment.
