Dont want to start a argument but when I put my turbo back in and torqued to 18 ft/lbs I had some seepage at the turbo to pedistal. Garrett lists the torque at 34-37 ft/lbs IRRC...Bob at Diesel Orings passed that along and he says alot of techs will use the Garret specs vs. Ford. I started at 18 but ended up at 35.

I could care less... About the only thing I use a TQ wrench on is head studs and internal parts... Otherwise it goes on tight.

Same thing for me. I wound up at 35 ft/lbs also and never leaked again.

Exclamation Turbo bolt torque correction 7.3l (99.5-2003)

The correct turbo bolts (2) torque spec is 35-37 ft.lbs. Ford entered the wrong spec with 18 ft.lbs in their manuals. This is a fact that should be researched for all to know. The pedestal bolts (4) is correct with 18 ft.lbs. Garrett specs there turbos at 35-37 ft.lbs. I learned this by my turbo leaking with only 18 ft.lbs applied. Called a diesel specialty shop (Clay at Riffraff Diesel) and they clarified turbo bolts need to be 35-37 ft.lbs or turbo may leak. And mine did at 18 ft.lbs. Just something to chew on, Garrison.

Good info fellow Ohioan. Going to be redoing my turbo soon, but I typically run the @CSIPSD route of German Spec, goodentight.

The first time I heard that I was a teenager and I called the Toyota dealer for a torque spec. He said "usually I give it the German torque specification". Since I was young and not knowing the ways of the world quite yet, I said "what does that mean?"

He said "you know, guttentite" and we both laughed for a moment. Since that day, whenever I see or here "guttentite" I chuckle just a bit.
