So I've been trying to fix a rough idle issue and I'm wondering about the old original TPS. When I look at Rock Auto they list them with an air pump and without.
Is there an important difference between these? I ask because this '96 5.8L has been modified and the air pump has been removed. Not using the stock ecu, using a tunable one.
Thx, but given this thing is 30 years old I’d like to replace it. Just wondering why there are 2 part numbers, they don’t look different in their photo.
Must be a brain fart on Rock Autos part
The TP's are the same
Try to find a Motorcraft one NOS on Ebay
You are right
The TP is the only moving part except for the injector pintles, means they DO wear out
I just looked, and yes they are different, in the plug, have a look at the pictures.
More than likely, with 1996, on uses OBDI(EEC-IV) and the other is for OBD2(EEC-V).
Also in 1996, I believe that the OBD2 vehicles did not have an Air Pump.
In reality, the distinction should be OBD1 vs OBD2, not with/without air pump.
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS TH184Info OE No. F6TF-AA
- has a 4 pin plug with only three wires, square looking
STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS TH44Info OE No. E7TF-CA
- has a 3 pin plug with three wires, triangle looking
So, question would be, is there an early vs late difference in plug, or is it OBD1 vs OBD2 actually the difference?
