I have a 2016 F250 6.7 with 73,800 miles, The clean exhaust filter mode only stays on for just few seconds. My mechanic a month ago had too manually burn the filter @64% down to 4%. I was leaving on a 1800 mile trip and he said it probably wouldn't come on at all, but did for just a few seconds each time. Is there a setting that needs to be changed? Thanks for any help.
These engines like to run hot and complete regens while under load. Best to get iDash Gauge or make sure you know where you are on the display as far as filter status. I just completed ~1500 mile trip and regens happen in the background @ ~525 mile mark last 20 minutes or 20 miles. Try to avoid idling in grocery store parking lots or the driveway. These trucks like to be loaded up and running hot and try not to interupt regen process by monitoring.

just to be clear, the message only pops up for a couple seconds, but the regen on that year takes 10 minutes or more a highway speeds. You can tell by watching the instant mpg monitor, when it's done will pop backup again.

Yes, the "CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER" only stays on for a few seconds and it's easy to miss. That's why I run a Banks iDash to monitor regens, actually have two units, because it lets you know when the active regen is over.
I have the 3rd ghost screen turned on to display the factory soot load percentage in increments of 5% it goes up... so when it reaches 95%, an active regen is imminent.
When it reaches 100%, it reads FULL on that PID. I drive mine when she's at 95% because my truck is paid off and a keeper, so I want to keep the DPF in good shape and last as long as possible.
I drive a 65 mph expressway to complete my active regens. Sometimes they have gone 18 miles and sometimes to 28 miles. Some have gotten the DPF down to 40% and some to 25%. Some of the time the DPF has passively burned down 5% when EGT4, the temp sensor in the tailpipe, after the regen has ended and EGT4 stays above 1000 degrees.
I have seen a 498 miles out regen since last regen when the truck read 80%. The truck must have been passively regening, when temps are hot enough inside the DPF at 572 degrees to burn off soot when the truck is not in active regen.
I do not haul or pull anything, just daily drive my truck. My drive to work is 18 miles one way. I live in the hills south of Buffalo, so the truck does get fully hot when I drive it. Thats why I believe my non-working truck's emissions are staying happy and healthy.
You should have your DPF SL % PID or screen, enabled. The Ford IDS clone software FORscan can enabled it or the dealer can do it for you.
What's your daily driving routine like?

No. Its just a notice that the regen has started. There is no notice when completed. It doesnt sound like you have a problem, although you havent told us why you had the dealer perform a regen for you? did you get some other messages?

What Dave said. The message comes on when the regen first kicks on. Then it continues for a while... Also, the DPF is not full yet at 64%, or what Ford deems is "full" when an active regen kicks off because if it was truly full of soot, there'd be codes and problems, plus you would get a "DRIVE TO CLEAN" message.
I'm just wondering why your mechanic told you it would not go active when you left for your trip. I'd get clarification from your mechanic in what he meant.
probably the fact that it was just 4% after manual burn. The reason I took the truck to him was the check engine light with code #PO-170-00 and fuel trim on #1bank.It shows that bank lean when regen is occurring.

The fact it got done to just 4% soot load is good... that's a reduction of 60% from what is was.
Found that there was a TSB issued for some 15 - 16 6.7s. Found in this thread here.

#1 ·Mar 18, 2019My 2016 Ford F-250 with 46,560 miles keeps receiving a P0170 code. A few months back I had the same code, did a little research and noticed others changed air cleaner and that fixed the issue. I did change the filter and everything was fine until this morning. Is this a typical code that pops up on a regular basis or should I run the truck into the shop?

While my 2012 was deleted, my 2019 was not, It would take 30 miles@ 60 MPH to fully clean the filter from 100%. This was after turning auto regen off. When it was on it would regen every 498 miles OR when the filter reached 100%. You will need at least a 20 minute highway run to fully clean the DPF, if not longer. Also run some Archoil through it, supposed to help clean the DPF.
I have found if I force regens it regens earlier ~500 miles vs 520 when I let the ECM decide to regen. They both take the same amount of time 20 minutes/20 miles @ highway speeds for EGT's to come back to norms.
Took my truck on a ride today before I had to pick up my son from school.
Just short of 440 miles out since last regen and got down to 25% with a 22 mile regen.
This is what EGTs (exhaust temps) on a truck that doesn't work need to be to keep emissions functioning and happy. This was prior to the regen kicking off on the expressway where I do them, heading south and climbing hills.
Difference is great on the 23+ regens. EGT 1&2 rarely exceed 600*, EGT 3&4 are 1100+. This is at 62MPH maintaining a steady speed. EGT1 fluctuates which is normal, but never goes higher during a regen than at any other time. The fact he oil test came back after 14,701 miles with no trace of fuel dilution means Ford did something great with the emissions adding a 9th injector. Too bad it can't be retro fitted to the older trucks, then less chance of fuel dilution causing damage.
