Gonna give a full rundown, so hang in there. About a month ago, my Motorola 5G UW started having jarring , painfully loud static during a phone call. Doesn't matter if using just bluetooth or Android Auto plugged into USB. Sirius music, spotify, everything else is fine. Only when two way communication is required, will it happen. Just for the record, all updates on phone, Android Auto, etc are up to date. Now, here's the kicker....I have two Motorola phones, one is for work, other is personal. Work phone is working fine , no static, no problem. I've gone through every setting on both phones , side by side, everything is identical. A quick search of the interwebs tells me that this is most likely a Ford issue, as it seems to be happening to quite a few different models, and apparently it has reached the F-150. Some have said, that their problem resolved itself after an Over The Air update on the vehicle, but I have no idea as to which update version is needed, nor do I know how to tell which version my truck has now. If I knew these things, I can petition my dealer to force the update. I welcome your input...has anyone else experienced this ? If so, what update version do I need ? How can I tell which version my truck currently has ? Thanks in advance for your input !
If one phone works fine while the other has issues, it could very well be the phone that’s the issue.
Not sure if it would help I have 2 trucks. My phone works with both, but in my 24 150 my phone won’t always connect when in my coat pocket. Works fine if place the phone on the dash . I can leave it in my pocket in the 20 f350 . Only voice and text work without being connected by a cord on the 2020. I never need use a cord for android auto in the 24.
I have a couple diagnostic suggestions in case you haven't considered them. Be sure your phone's OS is up to date with the carrier's suggested OS version. Be sure no other Blue Tooth devices are connected or in range of the truck or phone. i.e. turn anything off that ever was connected to either so that only the truck and phone have a BT connection. Good luck.
Phone works fine in wife's '22 Mustang GT, no problems. Phone also worked completely fine until recently, and works fine with my Bluetooth headsets (two different ones) as well as bluetooth speaker in the garage. The more I dig, the more I'm convinced it's an issue with Sync. Seems to be lots of talk about it in the EV forums (Mach E, Lightning), with several people saying it was not a problem, the problem appeared out of nowhere, and then, for some, it went away after an Over The Air update happened. Unfortunately, they give no details as to which version they updated from/to. I plan to at least visit my local dealer , with whom I have a pretty good relationship, and see if they have any recommendations. My plan is to push it pretty hard , citing a safety issue, as not having a working hands free system on the truck is not safe...maybe even get the salesman to let me connect it to another car on the lot to prove my point, that it is the Sync system, and not the phone. Stay tuned.
Well, you're not going to believe it. Rarely do we ever get resolution of this kind , this fast. I went by the dealership , for a couple of reasons, but definitely to mention the Sync issue . As expected, neither the salesmen, nor the service department had ever heard of such a thing. Many ideas were suggested, just like here, and one by one I told them it had already been tried, with no change.
Here's the funny part...as I'm pulling into the dealership, I was on the phone (work phone) with my wife. I end the call as I'm parking, and unplug the phone from it's cable, the screen goes from Android Auto, back to the Sync screen and a popup message says "Sync update in progress". What are the chances I wonder, as I continue on my path. I leave dealership and drive home, which is about an hours drive. I back into my spot at home and get out, stop, get back in, connect my personal phone to the truck, and call it from my work phone outside of the truck. Yep, you guessed it, no static, no noise, works normally. It was the Sync system all the time. I will try to at least see what version mine had updated to, in case anyone else needs the info, and post here.
My truck has been telling me it needs an update.actually it says update interrupted. Haven’t payed much attention to it. But, android auto keeps popping up on the screen. I hit the the audio tab and that comes up, but by the time I get where I am going,it’s back to the android screen. it’s been just quick trips .apparently need to let it update. I really don’t need my phone to connect to my truck for the short trips I have been using the truck for. I don’t have a lot of use for android auto either. I’m going to have to go out of my way to get it updated at some point.
