1973 f100 with fe390, and a c6
Started truck up at work to head home the other day, and noticed the lumpy idle right away, but started instantly upon touching the key. Limped it home, and squirted some water on headers to find cyl #1 cold. Had a busy weekend, but replaced plug wires, as its been a few years, and pulled #1 to find a clean washed plug soaked with gas. Swapped that plug out to no avail-still cold. Cleaned up the dist cap-nope. Swapped the cap, and still nope. Checked spark at #1 plug, and i have spark, but hard to tell how good it was with my old eyes, and the bright sun. I am gonna pop the valve cover when i get a chance, but what would i be looking for besides obviously broken parts at that cyl? Its getting gas, and spark already. No signs of oil on plug at all. Thanks!
Yeah. Hoping for a pushrod, as I've had to replace 3 of them over the past few years. Bent 2, and had one end turn egg shaped due to a clogged oil hole.
Would an intake gasket leak at that cyl do this?
@Horsethief
My guess is if you've bent a couple of pushrods earlier, you may have tight valves, and One that has stuck.
When I do a first start on an engine that has been sitting, I use 2-stroke fuel for initial starts (to help lube valve stems).
This is probably just a 'pipe-dream', but maybe the 2-stroke oil will be of benefit.
I have bent pushrods from valves Sticking both from extended sitting, and from bad fuel.
The curse is, if you had bent a push-rod, you would think you'd be hearing a Clicking.
Let us know what you have discovered. thanks, and good luck
