New door latch assembly missing rod connection
I know there's quite a bit out there on these but I can't find much addressing the problem I'm having regarding the plastic clips.
'99 F-250, extended cab doors are stuck closed. Checked the forums first and noticed this problem has been fixed many different ways over the years. I chose to go with entire new latch assemblies (top and bottom with cables and main center assembly all in one kit). Upper and lower cables were broken on both sides, so seemed like the smart buy. I DID NOT buy Ford, had a hard time just finding the part and didn't want to wait that long sooo, went the cheap/easy Amazon route
, double checked the part # and ordered away.Started with the passenger side rear door today. Got it open fine. Removed upper and lower latches, detached both cables and detached (3) rods. Drilled out rivets and began reinstalling.
I snaked the new upper and lower cables/latches into position. Bolted the main latch assembly in place using the rivet holes. And began connecting the cables and rods. On the original main latch assembly I counted 3 rods all set in plastic cradles, the new unit has only 2. The "rod without a cradle" rides at the top of the same arm to which the lower cable is attached.
rod in the white clamp on top right
original assembly vs new. original is from left door. new assembly goes to right door (or likely returned)
What's left of missing clip
arm where clip belongs, mounting hole there. (tab is not bent, bad photographer)
Rod is present in other's trucks
Hoping pictures are indeed worth a 1000 words. FWIW I did try to salvage the original clip...just too much age and disintegration.
Any thoughts or experiences on this clip? Alternatives or ways to jerry-rig it? Did I buy the wrong part or seriously miss something?
Trucks my daily so I had to button it up. Ended up leaving that rod disconnected. I assumed that since it was going straight to the door jam handle I could simply not use that (I know
), that was not the case and the door is now stuck shut again LOL.Guess I'm hoping these clips can be substituted or did I completely goof on the part/assembly? I haven't opened up the driver's door yet to see if that side's piece is salvageable. If it is, I'll use it. Just wondering what to do about the passenger side. Planning on some upgrades while I have the doors open so would love for this project not to hinge on a 25 year old piece of plastic.
Thanks in advance!

Tried grabbing one out of a wrecked 10th gen f150 in our yard this morning. Was broke like mine and zip tied there. Asked a different ford parts guy this morning and was told they can only get the yellow cable clips.
eBay it is. Fingers crossed.

Tbh just went off color, shape, size, description as there wasn't much else.
Had some time to work on some things today and did the other door figuring @ worst I'd have to wait for the clip. I needed to get in there for a few other jobs. Same deal, broken tabs where it mounts in the hole. Hole also seems a little larger in diameter on the replacement.
I did check around a few stores nothing close, Ford had the yellow clips for the cables and said they could order the black(green on replacement) rod ones, but nothing for gray. So c'mon Ebay.
I saw many a thread over the years on stuck xtnd cab doors. Crazy the solutions over 25 years!
Ironically a zip tie, strategically placed with calm hands, has lived through the day. Watch it last until the clip gets here lol.
Went through all my doors today. Sound deadener. New speakers to replace the originals (woww). Replace the floppy door gaskets. Had a door actuator that I'm so glad I didn't have to mess with. Cleaned the switch in its working again, albeit a little weak. Switch maybe?
Shoulda at least got the quality zip tie
Will report back on whether the clip ends up being the right size.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Anyways, the clips are correct. I found them on eBay,

All's well in the drivers rear door now so I'm halfwayyy there. There's something strange going on with the passenger's side though. I can't get it back open, clip worked and the rod's operational. I think I need to unbolt the whole thing and carefully look at it all. Looks like something is wrong with the upper cable and where it attaches to the latch mechanism (probably from when I disconnected it lol).
But the clips were correct, and did solve my initial problem.
Thanks all!
