ABS System retro-fitting
OK here is what I'm doing. I am retrofitting a classic '71 cab onto a 2011 superduty F350 rolling chassis.
All the ABS equipment/system/computer/harness remained with the chassis that I bought. All the brake lines and sensor wires to each wheel has remained intact, as well as the rear diff wheel speed sensor.
I'm wanting to know has anyone ever pulled this off? "This" being simply putting power to the system and giving it a go?
How do I learn more about the ABS system without needing to become an Ford electrical engineer?
Is it possible that I can just power this system up and it just starts working without the original 2011 cab?
My intentions are to put a new 2011 (same yr as the chassis I bought) hydro-boost master cylinder on the truck when the cab is installed...fyi.
Y'all can see I'm at the very beginning here, anything pointing me towards more info would be more than appreciated!
Thank you -JP

Unfortunately putting power to it won’t do anything, it needs the CAN bus system to tell it to turn on, when the brake pedal is pressed, if the brake fluid is low, if it’s in 4x4 and a bunch of other things.
There is another option you could do but you have to verify if it really has a rear diff sensor or if it’s the locking diff plug your seeing, is there any wheel sensors at the rear wheels?
It is a Dana M80 DRW rear end, and yes that is definitely called a speed sensor coming out the top of the diff housing, FYI it's a spicer part #4221458. This particular diff does not have an electric locker either.
Yes all the wheels/rotors have sensors on them.
I'm all ears in regards to this second option Mr Things!
Now this works in your favour if you want to keep ABS but you have to use a unit from 2002-2004 trucks as its stand alone and has the inputs required to work, you’ll also have to swap out the all the sensors to the older generation for this to work.
I did this with my 95 F350 when I swapped in 2006 axles and it works like factory ABS. You can not use 05-09 ABS units either as they are also CAN bus controlled.
I went out and confirmed that Indeed it is a 3 channel system.
Now I suppose the next order of business beside sourcing the parts to start working through it is figuring out the wiring/circuitry.
