I have a 1994 Bronco XLT 5.8, with the E4OD transmission and Dash Switch. My Switch started twitching like not getting power and then nothing. No clicking sound under the passenger side dash and no dash light on the switch. I checked the fuses and replaced the dash switch and nothing. I also checked the module behind the kick panel on the passenger side and the test button led flashes 4 times telling me it's good. So I went ahead and replaced the transfer case motor and still not going into 4 wheel drive. Any thoughts? Power doesn't seem to be at the switch for some reason New Transfer Case 3-3-25
According to the wiring diagram, power is not required for the shift actuation. Open of the switch is 2WD (terminal 2 floating), and shorting switch terminal 1 to terminal 2 should result in 4WD High, or shorting terminal 3 to terminal 2 should result in 4WD Low.
Fuse 17 (10A) is the fuse that feeds the indicator lights for 4WD and 4LO through switch terminal 5, but as listed above, power from that fuse does not change the intended operation of the transfer case motor. Ground for the indicator lights is achieved through the Electronic Shift Control Module (ESCM). You should also make sure you have good grounds at terminal 3 and 5 of the ESCM connector C221.
There is a 20A circuit breaker in location 12 of the fuse box that provides power to the ESCM along with Fuse F18 (10A) which is hot in Run. From the wiring diagram in the factory service manual the ESCM does have an input that appears to get ground only when the transmission is in Neutral. I THINK that is because you need to be in Neutral to shift to 4LO rather than having any effect on 4Hi.
Did you confirm you have power to and through all three fuses/circuit breakers (F17, F18, and circuit breaker F12)?
I just checked all that and still nothing. The fuses are good. The switch isn't lighting up when I press it and no clicking sound on the passenger side
How comfortable are you with reading wiring diagrams? I can either post the factory wiring diagrams here if you're comfortable reading them and knowing how to test the circuit or I can try to outline a few steps that should only require a multimeter and/or test light. The circuit is pretty simple. If you confirm you have good power at the switch, then the issue will either be the switch or the module since you say the module self test works. Although I'm not familiar with the test button and four flashes. I didn't see an indication of that but I only looked at the wiring diagrams, not any diagnostic steps for the module.

I have a mechanic doing the wire testing. I did the module and took pictures and video id be happy to share with you.

I would suspect your new shift motor is no good
Pull it back off and verify the transfer case shifts using pliers
Good offer shorod about posting the schematics
Do it, post them, so we can all see them
I think I know what they look like from memory but have no Bronco / F150 EVTM for 1994
Also, those wires going into that clutch look funky to me
That module needs to hear back from "all" the limit switches "and" that clutch before it will "allow" a shift
So, I would verify those wires going into the clutch are not grounded or open
The transfer case was rebuilt with the transmission 3 years ago and I was actually in 4 high when it decided to stop. I stopped my truck and shut the motor off and was away from it for and hour but still in sight of it. When I got back in and started it the light on the switch and the indicator on the dash were gone. I tried pushing the button on the dash and no clicking sound under the dash. So I drove home in 2 wheels drive. But as I drove I hit the button and sometimes it would come back on. It was like a short somewhere.
So as of now I've replaced the dash switch and checked the module and it's good and replaced the transfer case shift motor. I've also checked the fuses and all are good. I don't think there's power getting to the switch
You can pull the switch out and check for power
You can check for power on the wire at the transfer case motor when requesting 4x4
You can command 4X4 with a NGS scan tool and read the PIDS
You can follow a service manual for the diagnosis which is basically the above
The module diagnosis is a rabbit hole you do not want to enter, trust me
Having said that, go ahead and dive into the book diagnostics for the system whi,ch will send you into limit switch and module diagnosis and back around to the motor
I just e-mailed a PDF of the wiring diagram for the transfer case to the e-mail you provided. One of the points I tried to make is that the switch assembly does not require power for changing the transfer case setting, only for the illumination and shift position LEDs.
The PDF in your e-mail should help you track down if you have power where you need power and if the motor is doing what it's supposed to do.
Hey Miner,
There is a test at the processor board that may help you ,Seems you found this info ,did you unhook the two wire connector and press the white square button .TR
