This may sound like a stupid question to some, but I am trying to wire a starter switch to the solenoid. The reason I'm doing this is because,on my 91 Bronco inside the steering column the rod that pushes the starter switch down has striped. It still turn to the start position and every thing works but I have to jump the solenoid with a screwdriver.I have tried to wire just across the two big terminals with a switch like I'm jumping it with the screwdriver but that didn't work.Am I wiring it wrong and if so can some one help me?
Watch posting links to competing sites.. admin. isn't too keen on it.
The column actuator can be replaced and the procedure has been detailed here many times. The ignition switch closes contacts for five separate circuits when engaged so it cannot simply be bypassed with a pushbutton. The contacts are also engaged incrementally to that certain circuits are energized before the actual start solenoid is triggered. The EEC-IV power relay (main computer power), the fuel pump relay, and the ignition SPOUT signal relay are just a few of the devices that are energized when the switch is engaged.
