Clock on Radio
but so far no problems. I bought it as a lease back (couldn't resist the pymnt) anyway, before I bought I told dealership about the injector issues I had read about. They pulled up the service work for me and this truck had the following done:31Fcz
31Fcz01
31Fczre
The description says Diesel Engine Repair. They told me that was the injectors. Is that seem correct?
Truck runs Awesome, tons of power. i cant complain yet. It has 12,000 miles on it so its still pretty new.
But I have 2 questions:
1. The fuel gauge seems to register incorrectly..has there been a recal or TSB on this? Slow to show full, and drops off full within 60 miles.
#2. How do you get the time to stay displayed on the cd/radio? I know you can hit the clock button and it switches from the station to the clock, but everytime I shut it off, it defaults to show the radio station, not the time. Drives me nuts, Iknow what station I am on, I need to know the time. Any ideas?
Thanks all.
I have the same issue with the clock display on my 03. It wasn't that way on any of my previous Ford products. No one at the dealership could figure it out. Maybe emtabmmwill come up with something.
My fuel guage doesn't move off full until I have driven around 170 miles. Then it drops fast! The fuel seems to foam when filling the tank. When a nozzle automaticaly shuts off, you can get another 4 or 5 gallons in the tank, however it takes forever to do it. I do it when I'm towing for the extra driving range. The 170 mile drop from full happens when I have taken the time to really top off the tank.

FUEL INDICATION CONCERNS - FUEL SIGNAL TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - SERVICE TIP
SOME 2000-2004 SUPER DUTY F-SERIES, EXCURSION, EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR, AVIATOR, ESCAPE, BLACKWOOD, EXPLORER/MOUNTAINEER AND F-150'S EQUIPPED WITH 5.4L, 6.0L AND 6.8L ENGINES MAY HAVE FUEL INDICATION CONCERNS. TO CHECK THE FUEL SIGNAL TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WHEN INVESTIGATING FUEL INDICATION COMPLAINTS, USE AN NGS. PULL UP THE FUELLVL PID IN THE HEC DIAGNOSTICS SECTION (GREEN CARD). THE PID READINGS ARE IN PERCENT OF TANK FULL, SO 50% SHOULD HAVE A FUEL GAGE INDICATION OF ABOUT 1/2 TANK. THE PID VALUE RESPONDS INSTANTLY TO FUEL SLOSH AND VEHICLE TILT, BUT THE FUEL GAGE RESPONDS MORE SLOWLY TO COMPENSATE FOR SLOSH. THE GAGE MAY TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES WITH KEY ON TO MATCH A STABLE FUEL INPUT SIGNAL. IF IT DOES, THE FUEL INDICATION SYSTEM IS OK. IF THE PID VALUE IS '000' THE CLUSTER IS NOT RECEIVING A VALID FUEL SIGNAL FROM THE TANK.

2003-2004 SUPER DUTY/EXCURSION 6.0L - WATER IN FUEL LIGHT ILLUMINATED
SOME 2003-2004 SUPER DUTY/EXCURSION VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 6.0L POWERSTROKE MAY EXHIBIT A WATER IN FUEL (WIF) LIGHT ON, WHICH DOES NOT TURN OFF AFTER WATER HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE HORIZONTAL FUEL CONDITIONING MODULE (HFCM). THIS MAY BE DUE TO CORROSION/SEDIMENT BUILD UP IN THE WATER RESERVOIR. TO SERVICE, FIRST VERIFY ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS. IF ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ARE OKAY, REMOVE THE FUEL MANIFOLD FROM THE HFCM. INSPECT/CLEAN DEBRIS (MAX 25 PSI AIR) FROM THE WATER RESERVOIR IN HFCM HOUSING. INSTALL NEW FUEL MANIFOLD PN 3C3Z-9B249-AB AND REASSEMBLE THE FUEL MANIFOLD TO THE HFCM. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL SECTION 310-01 FOR HFCM DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY PROCEDURES.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16820 2003 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY AND EXCURSION BUILT BETWEEN 12/1/2002 AND 4/14/2003 - FUEL INDICATION MAY BE LESS THAN ACTUAL
SOME 2003 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY AND EXCURSION BUILT BETWEEN 12/1/2002 AND 4/14/2003 MAY EXHIBIT AN INACCURATE FUEL GAGE READING AFTER REFUELING. REFUELING WITH THE IGNITION KEY IN ACCESSORY MODE IS MORE LIKELY TO RESULT IN A LOWER THAN ACTUAL FUEL GAGE READING. IF THE READING IS SUSPECTED TO BE INACCURATE, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY (GAS) OR BATTERIES (DIESEL) AND RECONNECT TO REINITIALIZE THE FUEL LEVEL MEMORY IN THE CLUSTER. NO REPAIR IS NECESSARY IF THE FUEL GAGE CHANGES TO THE CORRECT READING. NOTE, THE FUEL GAGE SHOULD EVENTUALLY REACH THE CORRECT READING WITHOUT REINITIALIZING. REPLACING THE CLUSTER AND/OR THE SENDER WILL NOT FIX NOR IMPROVE THIS CONDITION. IF AN INACCURATE READING PERSISTS REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 'B' AND FOLLOW NORMAL DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES.

(till now)Anyway, I guess the fuel gauge is something I will have to get used to, as it appears they looked into it already.
I read the manual, but nothing in their RE: the radio..Would like to fix that issue.
Once again, Thanks for the info. Much appreciated
Cheers
PS I think Santa is bringing a digi cam this x-mas so I will snap a pic or two then

I don't know what to tell you about the clock, mine did the same thing, but I don't remember exactly what I did to change it. I think I held down the clock button for 2 seconds, and after that it now only shows the station frequency for a few seconds then goes back to the clock. I have the premium sound single cd/cassette and don't see anything in the manual about enabling/disabling the clock display.

RE: Gauge. I have been reading alot about it on this forum. I will try and spend a bit more time topping off the tank as I did only give it a couple extra shots after the autoshut off kicked in. I think the "foaming" everyone has talked about with diesel fuel is maybe causing me to not fill the tank totally. I have found though that it rides between 1/4 and 1/2 for a long time. I know on our expedition it takes forever to come off full but once it does it drops fast. So maybe this is the opposite.
RE: Radio. YAHOO! That means there is a way to fix it...Question is how? I tried holding the clock button down and it didnt help. I have the same radio as you. I think I have hit every combination of buttons on that thing. Wife thinks I am crazy.
If you remember how you did it, please post.
Thanks
I'll see if I can get the clock back to the other mode, then I have to try to get it back to current...if I can I'll let you know. No, your not crazy, yet...a few more months of that clock though and you'll be on the edge, it was driving me crazy after just 30 minutes!
"With the additional 5 gallons it should be at least 125 miles"
They get between 17 to 18.5 per gallon averge just reading the other treads and mine befor they Flashed it, I could get 20 by being nice to it and not go over 65. Drive like there is an egg between your foot and the pedal.
Rob
PS, New Truck being made Monday 12/15 just in time for two week shut down at Ford
I would think most people would not complain to the dealers over this for fear of being labeled too damn pickyand whiney
It is driving me crazy too.
clock goes back to station when you adjust volume, bass, trebble or when you spit out of the window.
Glad to see im not alone in this aggravation
