This is my first time checking in to this forum but I found something that peeked my interests when I found the clock on radion questions. I have had my F-250 since January 03 and it too is driving me crazy. "emtabmm" seems to have the answer but I too am wondering if there is a TSB or something from Ford officially stating the process to get my radio changed to default to the clock upon start up. I hope someone can help with this info, and I hope this ends up in the right forum spot.
Thanks from a first timer for all the great info.

No, The dealer sends the radio in to their repair facility and they update or replace the unit, just tell them the clock wont stay displayed after start and they should send it in for that concern.
Wow, that was a really fast reply, many thanks "emtabmm". I went to my dealer early on in the spring and they looked at me like they had never heard of such a problem. They said to check with Fords customer service, who told me there was nothing they had on this problem, but said to check with your Ford dealer, and so it went. Thanks for the info and I hope to be able to tell you it all went well soon.
Well, bad news, this is the ssm I just found from Ford, I would still attempt the above to try and get radio update but this kind of negates it....please note this applys to am/fm/cd/cass units only, not the am/fm/cd unit...

2003 VARIOUS VEHICLE LINES - DUAL MEDIA RADIO CLOCK FUNCTION CHANGE - VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 12/1/02
2003 ESCAPE, ECONOLINE, F-SUPER DUTY, RANGER, EXCURSION, WINDSTAR, MUSTANG, EXPLORER/MOUNTAINEER(4 DOOR), EXPLORER SPORT(2 DOOR) AND SPORT TRAC VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 12/1/02 AND EQUIPPED WITH DUAL MEDIA RADIO, HAVE A FEATURE CHANGE WITH THE CLOCK WHEN THE RADIO IS ON. THE RADIO DISPLAY WILL DEFAULT TO THE RADIO STATION NUMBER (FREQUENCY) INSTEAD OF THE CLOCK EACH TIME THE IGNITION IS SHUT OFF. THIS IS AN INTENDED DESIGN CHANGE AND REPLACING THE RADIO WILL NOT REPAIR THIS CONDITION. INFORM THE CUSTOMER THEY MUST DEPRESS THE CLOCK BUTTON ON THE RADIO TO DISPLAY THE FUNCTION AFTER EACH IGNITION CYCLE IF THE CLOCK FUNCTION IS DESIRED. DO NOT REPLACE THE RADIO FOR THIS CONDITION.
Thanks for the heads up on the bad news "emtabmm", it is a shame that Ford is essentially saying to heck with all the owners stuck with these radios that they (Ford) screwed up on. I had gone down to my dealer yesterday to see about a fix, but they said they would get back to me. Yeah, maybe in the next millenia. The sad part of it is I had an Excursion with essentially the same radio, and it worked as it should with the clock showing all the time. I wish I had it back now!
AHHHHH, I see this quite a bit where I work. There is an old saying in design engineering..."If you can't fix it, feature it."
"...THIS IS AN INTENDED DESIGN CHANGE AND REPLACING THE RADIO WILL NOT REPAIR THIS CONDITION." Wonder how the newest radios behave, maybe we'll hear something like "Due to popular demand, we've decided to go back to the original operation...".
Just took the truck in for the Dec flash (see my other post) and also for my radio concern. Was hoping they would not pry much and just replace the radio. Well they had the radio guy come in asked me what the trouble was, I said it will not display the clock on start-up, he pulled my old one out and gave me a new one ( all in about 3 minutes)..AND IT WORKS! Yes sir..Now I have the normal operating display..As it should be.. Station displays for 3-5 secs and then the clock displays. So for those that have the problem, give it a try and see, maybe your dealer will replace for you.
I took the info from this forum to my dealer to show them that there was a possible fix to this clock issue and they said they would look into it, but so far they have not contacted me, maybe I will check back with them now that the holidays are over.

I referred the dealer service to some info on this forum and they ignored me as well. I think they take objection to it like we are telling them how to do their job. When I mention a post on the Internet, I get an eye roll. I know I don't like it when someone tries to tell me how to do my job when they don't know what they are talking about, but I listen to suggestions. I even suggested they log onto this forum. I still haven't gotten an answer from my dealer as to what rev they are running on their WDS computer. They just tell me I have the latest on my truck that they have.
