I have cleaned and lubed my current speedo cable and still have a bouncing speedo needle so I am replacing the cable. The new cable came in but I noticed that it does not appear to be lubricated at all. The below is all that the service manual mentions about lube:
“Lubricate the cable core exposed at the transmission ferrule with B5AZ1958I-A lubricant or equivalent. Apply a coating of ESA-MIC45-A or equivalent to the O-ring on the ferrule.”
Do I not need to lube the entire new cable before installation?
Hopefully it is just the cable. Even after cleaning it thoroughly a few times the cable was still hard to push through the sheath so I am thinking that may be the issue.
Unfortunately people around my location are acting like jerks so I got held over at work and did not get a chance to work on it today. I will update tomorrow.

oh ok your just replacing the core then? I just got a whole new set.
Only thing I though was weird is the old cable had a little nylon needle and the new one was just the square brazed end. Spins just fine just wondering why they did that.

No I bought a new cable and sheath. Honestly the core in mine now looks good so I am thinking the sheath has a kink in it or internally it is just gummed up.
I think that I will just use a little Vaseline on the new core when I replace it.
So I had a chance to swap out the speedometer cable and that fixed the bouncing needle issue.
I ended up just leaving the cable as it was as far as lube.
What a difference between the old and new cable set. The old set took a good about of force to remove and replace the cable and with the new set I had to keep the cap on to keep the cable from sliding out.
I do need to change out the gear but am going to wait until I get my new wheels and tires on.
