Shaky speedometer needle finally resolved
I've been chasing a loud and bouncing speedometer needle between 20 MPH to 40 MPH for a few months now.
I cleaned and lubed the original cable with no improvement.
Then I replaced the original cable with an online replacement from Pioneer( the first one was crap out of the box and I needed to get a second one) - Needle bounce got slightly better- no shake over 30MPH.
I even tried swapping out the speedometer head with no change in the fluctuations.
As a last ditch effort I decided to try a speedometer shop custom cable from www.speedoservice.com, WOW what a difference! Their cable was thicker than the original Ford or Pioneer one, metal jacketed and fit perfect first time.
I finally have a quiet and smooth speedometer indicator with NO BOUNCE.
It was about 2.5X the cost of the Amazon/Ebay crap but well worth it in my opinion; and its made in the good old USA.
I've had a streak of bad luck with replacement parts lately with bad voltage regulators and a new not remanufactured leaking water pump- finally happy to pass on a positive experience.
Thanks
