You need to remove the transmission first and the bell housing can be unbolted from it once you remove it. What is wrong with the bell housing
Thank you. One of my friends took it upon him self to try and fix the starter mounts after he stripped them and just making them bigger and bigger to where no size bill will fit and have the starter align with the fly wheel
This is going off memory since I haven't had my Ranger for a number of years, but IIRC there were 2 different trans if you had a manual. IDK about the auto options.
These trucks had a 1 piece manual trans that Mazda designed & the other was a Mitsubishi trans that "I think" had a removable bell housing.
You didn't say if you have an auto or manual, but assuming you have a manual:
You might be able to save the holes with some HeliCoil inserts, but if they are too far gone then that option has passed.
If the holes are FUBAR, both the Mazda & Mitsu will have to be pulled completely out to correct the issue & it is possible to do it in the driveway but it isn't for the faint of heart.
The trans is awkward & heavy & difficult to do it yourself & your biggest issue may be getting the truck up high enough to be able to get the bell housing/trans out from under the frame rails. I know, cuz I did it to mine in the driveway.
For the Mazda, you will be replacing the whole trans as it is 1 piece.
If it has the 2 piece Mitsu then you could replace the bell housing once it's on the ground.
