I decided to try and scan for ABS codes once I got home from work. Before I turned off the truck I grounded out the diagnostic port plug. I was getting a code 11. I knew my truck had something to do with the brake light switch once I saw the message about it coming on at 15mph. That's exactly when the ABS light comes on when I drive my truck. The lights haven't been sticking. I had that happen a few times even with new switches. I don't think there's any adjustment on the pedal side of the rod but I checked anyway. Since then I haven't had any more stuck brakelights. I've got 2 new brake light switches. I've got a parts store one and a Standard motor parts one from Rockauto. I bought the Standard one because in the Rockauto catalog it showed an actual OEM Ford one. I know that some Standard products are supplied by OEM. When I installed either one of those the brake lights stuck on all the time. So I resorted to putting the original 1998 brake light switch back on. The lights haven't been sticking on but still got the ABS light. I went to my OEM Ford service manual and it said to follow Pinpoint chart Q for an ABS code 11. I forgot to do the first step which was checking the fuse. I know I did that when all this first starting happening and it was fine. Pinpoint test Q2 was checking the the BPP switch for an open. I got 11.87 volts with my multimeter. It said go to Q3 which is where I was a little confused. It said it was checking the BPP switch. Does it want you to check the terminals on the switch itself? Does the switch need to be installed or can it be out? I decided to go onto Q4 just to check it. It was to check circuit 57 (BK) for open. Mine read 2.0-3.5 ohms. I didn't have the procedure printed out for Q5 to check the ABS control module. I'll do it later. Here's the picture of the Q3 testing the BPP switch.
It was a brake light switch. I tried 3 different ones even a new Ford switch. Lights stuck on. I used one of the aftermarket ones to fix it. The stop on the switch had to be filed just a bit down. Maybe some clearance tolerances on the reman brake booster that weren't right. That's when all this happened. With the new switch brake lights work right and ABS light stays off for now. Didn't come on at 15 MPH. Drove it about an hour in stop and go traffic today. Seems ok. Hope that was the end of it. Didn't have to end up taking it to a shop.
