I did a search and couldn't find this topic, so apologize if I missed something.
Has anyone else had a "jumpy" adaptive cruise experience? The cruise works fine as long as there are no vehicles in front, holds a nice steady smooth speed. The moment I approach another vehicle, the vehicle can't seem to decide if it wants to slow down or speed up. I can both feel it, and see it on the MPG bar. It will constantly back off and speed up, but it is far from gradual and smooth like other vehicles we have with the same feature.
I have an apt at the dealer this week for some other minor items and will throw this on the list, just curious if this is a known issue or if others have noticed the same.
If it's setup like my 2021, unplug it from the radar box on the bumper mine had plastic still over part of the metal connector. I packed it full of dielectric grease and it'd been flawless since. Mine was downright dangerous on the Interstate. I called two Ford dealers and both said I'm just not used to it...lol.
The thrill with my adaptive cruise in my 2016 F-150 is it hates tanker trailers. Sometimes when I am passing them (only tankers), it slams on the brakes hard. Weird! I've learned to click out of cruise when passing tankers to avoid getting rear-ended at high speed. I hope they got the software fixed long ago, prior to our 2025!
It's interesting, my wife's Infiniti has adaptive that works exactly the same as the Ford. There are buttons for increasing following distance, an indicator when it thinks it sees something ahead, etc. I wonder if that's a patented technology that the two companies are buying from an originator.
In diagnosing an outright INOP condition I found the lower mount on the radar box was loose and the box was out of alignment. Doesn't sound like your intermittent issue, but maybe if it is loose enough and "floating" around while underway?
I'm curious if ACC kicks on the brake lights when it rapidly slows after someone cuts in front of me. I worry about getting rear ended by the tailgater behind me.
Its out of calibration if it acts erratically. My 24 works smooth as silk. It took some getting used to as it will SET your speed when you turn it on, where you had to SET it with the SET buttons on previous trucks.
Yes the brake lights come on, otherwise Ford would be putting all of us in the litigation category when getting rear ended.
I don't know if anyone tried this yet, if not, DON'T! If I leave my hands off the steering wheel to where it goes through its warnings, it will then throw a temper tantrum and slam on the brakes. Its like a I got your attention now Motherf...
