Retainer clips

Hey guys have a 1954 ford truck and fixing to put new window and door cranks. The new ones I bought did not come with retainer clips. Went to auto store and bought a pack of dorman assorted clips but none would work. Found some online but for 6 clips (2 extra) clips were just 50 cents each but shipping was $22. Wondering if any of you have found any or have a few I could buy and send a self-addressed envelope to send. It must have to be the exact clip as the ones I bought would not hold handles on the shaft. Thanks

A couple of options with much lesser shipping costs:

Amazon Amazon

https://www.ebay.com/itm/145651135785

You can get a 100 pack with delivery for $17... https://car-pak.com/product/car-pak-j0921/

As a follow up question to the OP’s inquiry.

Is there a way to get new shafts for the window cranks and door latches to change them to the 1956 style with the set screw, instead of those frustrating clips?

I have one latch on my 55 that I still cannot get off, even with the tool.

One of the TV shows shows how to get them clips off using a rag, I have always used the tool that I have had since the early 80's
On the rag deal it was something like get the rag between the door and handle holding the rag on either side and then kind of pull it like you were going to polish clean behind the handle and rock the rag so it grabs the clip and pops it off. He showed the rag keep the clip from flying too.
It was on Hot Rod TV or something like that just did not pay that much to it as I got the tool.

In my opinion, you only need the handles / levers of the 56 with the set screws.

Thanks for the info.

So the 56 set screw handles will work on the 55 shafts.

That is good to know since I certainly will never, ever use those clips again.

Yes, according to my research, 53-55 & 56 have the same splining. When I got my 56 it had window cranks with clips, as these were worn out I ordered 56 cranks with setscrews, these fitted.

I was concerned that the 56 spines shaft had some kind of a groove to accept the set screw.

The one clip I cannot get off my 55 door does not seem to have any significant ears on it, to push against with the tool.

Eventually, I will get it.

Try using a small pick with a slight bend on it and a small flat screwdriver. That's what used for both my trucks with no problems.

I have the tool and it will not work on this last one.

It appears that there are no, or small, ears on the clip.
